Penn State offers Beef Cattle Short Course
UNIVERSITY PARK — The Beef Cattle Short Course will take place Oct. 7-8 at Penn State and offer cattle producers two days of learning opportunities
The course, presented by Penn State Extension with support from the Pennsylvania Beef Producers Working Group, begins with a live cattle evaluation, which allows participants the chance to assess live cattle and on day two of the course participants get to see how their evaluations translate to outcomes on the rail.
The first afternoon features guest speaker Pedro Carvalho, assistant professor and feedlot specialist, Colorado State University, who will discuss ration formulation. On day two, cattle that participants had previously evaluated live will get the chance to assess the same cattle on the rail. University specialists will discuss managing cattle health and ways for producers to manage their market in the afternoon.
Space is limited and preregistration is required by Sept. 30. Cost is $50 for both days. Register online at https://extension.psu.edu/beef-short-course or call Penn State’s customer service team at 1-877-345-0691 or Tara Felix at (814) 865-0065.
