Earn pesticide recertification credits at Extension workshop

UNIVERSITY PARK — A workshop hosted by Penn State Extension in Lancaster and Centre counties in September will offer an opportunity for pesticide applicators to earn recertification credits.

In Lancaster County, “Field Crop Recertification School” will be Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Penn State’s Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center, 1446 Auction Rd., Manheim.

The Centre County event will occur Wednesday, Sept. 24 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Penn State’s Snider Agricultural Arena, 889 E. Park Ave., State College.

The workshop is designed for commercial and public pesticide applicators, private pesticide applicators and certified crop advisors. Sessions will address agronomic pest issues for corn, soybean, small grains and forage crops.

According to organizers, extension specialists and educators will provide the latest information on:

• Weed management in agronomic crops.

• Disease management in corn and soybean.

• Agronomic management of soybean and wheat.

• Pesticide safety.

Pesticide recertification credits are available for attendees. Participants can earn six credits in each of the following categories: core, private, 01 and 18. Credits also will be available for pesticide applicators in Maryland and New Jersey, pending approval. Certified crop advisors can earn continuing education credits.

Preregistration ends Sept. 16 for the Manheim session and Sept. 15 for the State College workshop, but organizers will allow walk-in participants.
