MIFFLINTOWN -- Cedar Grove Brethren in Christ Church will support the efforts of artisans around the world by selling their handcrafted gifts Nov. 19, 20 and 21 at the Juniata Valley International Gifts Sale. Sale items will include home décor, winter wear (hats, mittens, scarves and more), Christmas items, (ornaments, nativities and more), toys, jewelry, clothing, linens, baskets and fair trade food (coffees, teas, chocolates, soup mixes, spices, oils and more).
The event at the Cedar Grove Church, 287 Deerville Rd., Mifflintown, offers a unique opportunity for people in central Pennsylvania communities to invest in their world by shopping fair trade. Shoppers will also learn more about skilled artisans in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Local baked goods will also be offered Friday and Saturday.
The church has hosted the festival for more than 30 years, each year showcasing handcrafted items marketed by Ten Thousand Villages, SERRV, Women at Risk, India Hope Chest, Shop with a Mission and Education and More. By shopping fair-trade, you will help skilled artisans in third world countries receive a fair price for their handcrafted wares, create employment opportunities and assist them in being able to pay for uniforms, books and additional fees in order to send their children to school and provide better opportunities for their future."
Sales like the one held at Cedar Grove owe their success to dedicated local volunteers. Approximately 50 volunteers will unpack the crafts, serve as sales clerks and clean up following the event.
