‘Home Food Preservation’ workshops and webinars offered by Extension in September

2 min read

UNIVERSITY PARK -- In September, Penn State Extension will offer a series of workshops and webinars for anyone interested in preserving food at home to learn food preservation methods and best practices.

Preserving food at home can be done for several reasons, including saving money, preserving seasonal produce or learning food safety practices, noted organizers.

Instructors will present research-based information to dispel food preservation myths, identify unsafe practices and offer practical tips to ensure a positive experience when preserving food at home.

The series includes live webinars on topics such as drying foods, wild game and charcuterie accompaniments. These topics also are available as instructional workshops across the state.

Previous topics such as tomatoes and salsa, fermented pickles and sauerkraut, freezing, hands-on pickling, pressure canning and water bath canning will be repeated next year.

Organizers note that seasoned experts and beginners alike can gain valuable food-preservation skills.

Workshop and webinar registration dates vary by event; workshops carry a $15 registration fee and webinars carry a $5 registration fee. Recordings of webinars will be sent to participants unable to attend live.

Penn State employees may be eligible for additional discounts. See individual course pages for details.
