LEWISTOWN -- The Mifflin-Juniata Concert Association has released the list of scheduled performances for the 2023-2024 concert season.
The new season kicks off Monday, Sept. 11, 2023 at 7:30 p.m. Jeremy Davis and Clay Johnson's newest show, Beatles to Bourbon Street, features selections from one of the most influential bands in history. Their unique arrangements, paired with swinging selections of Bourbon Street music, take audiences on a journey from Abbey Road to the French Quarter.
Vox Fortura appears on Monday, Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. They bring classical vocals back into the mainstream through their iconic style and sound. Performing music from nearly every era and genre, Vox Fortura adds an exciting twist to classical crossover and pop-op music. Their captivating charm, vocal panache, sheer class, and dominating stage presence make them a once-in-a-generation, unforgettable group that will excite audiences of all ages.
On Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m., the Starlets take you on a musical journey through the 50s & 60s. This powerhouse female vocal trio performs the sounds of pop, doo wop, R&B, and Motown, and dazzle audiences with their fabulous costumes, sizzling choreography, and audience engagement. Their repertoire includes familiar hits like "My Boyfriend's Back," "These Boots Are Made For Walking," and "Stop! In The Name Of Love."
The Sounds of Silence Tribute journeys back in time to the 1970s Greenwich Folk Village Scene, to a timeless era of music when lyrics and melody meant something more. Award-winning musicians Steven Delopoulos and Johnny Phillips are known for their unique sound, energetic live shows, and introspective lyrics underscored by their remarkable musicianship. Their concert features the music of Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, John Denver, Cat Stevens, Don McLean, and more. The Sounds of Silence Tribute will appear Sunday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m., the stage welcomes Mia Vassilev, a virtuosic piano player with worldwide acclaim for her musical diversity, artistry and charismatic stage presence. Mia is joined onstage by a drummer and string player, as well as a dance duo. Her program "In The Spirit of Liberace" explores genres from classical to Latin, and Polka to Rock 'N Roll, and features selections from Carmen, Sing Sing Sing, multimedia elements, and more.
In the spring, the show goes country. On Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m., it is Key of G Live! is a tribute to country superstar, Garth Brooks. The group is led by AJ Bisto on lead vocals and guitar, and backed by a 6-piece band of drums, fiddle, bass, steel guitar, and keys. This concert captures all of the signature sounds that Garth Brooks fans know and love, and pays tribute to the chart-topping artist in classic country music style.
While anticipation builds for the new season, there is still one more concert left on the current schedule. The last concert of the 2022-2023 season is Tuesday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. Two world-class soloists combine for a powerhouse duo with international flair. Ilya Yakushev is known for his musical pyrotechnics on the piano and Thomas Mesa is heralded as one of the most charismatic and engaging cellists of his generation.
The Mifflin-Juniata Community Concert Association has been providing the Lewistown community with quality live entertainment for close to 70 years.
The association is affiliated with Live On Stage Inc, a premier entertainment provider. All concerts are presented at Mifflin County High School, 501 6th St. in Lewistown.
