UNIVERSITY PARK -- Gardeners of all skill levels can learn about creating a home garden that includes native plants and attracts pollinators at an upcoming Penn State Extension workshop led by the Master Gardeners of Huntingdon County.
"Designing With Native Plants in Central Pennsylvania" will take place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center, 3400 Discovery Rd. in Petersburg.
This workshop is intended for home gardeners, potential gardeners, those who want to attract and help butterflies and other pollinators, and anyone interested in native plants.
The session will cover:
• Native plants and the benefits of using them.
• The methods of design using native plants.
• How to choose the right plant for the right spot.
• Examples from a case study.
• The tools needed to design a native plant garden.
Registration is limited to 20 participants. The registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. April 13. The $10 registration fee covers all provided materials and a coupon to shop the native plant sale at Shaver's Creek Environmental Center at 9 a.m. April 29, one hour before it opens to the public at 10 a.m.
