Coroner rules death of 24-year-old Callie Espigh accidental

NEW BUFFALO -- A 24-year-old Mifflin County woman died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash late Saturday on U.S. 322 in Perry County.

Callie Espigh died of multiple traumatic injuries following the crash, which occurred at about 11:52 p.m. Oct. 3 near mile marker 225.6 in Watts Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police at Newport and the Cumberland County Coroner's Office.

The coroner's office ruled Espigh's death accidental.

State police said Espigh was traveling east on Route 322 when her vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons. The vehicle traveled over an embankment, became airborne and struck a ditch before overturning.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof near the travel lanes.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police said it was not immediately clear why Espigh's vehicle left the roadway.

New Buffalo Fire Company, Duncannon Fire/EMS and Penn State Life Lion assisted state police at the scene.
