CURVE, Pa. - Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Callan Moss slammed a go-ahead Grand Slam to send Altoona 4-2 win against Akron. The win extended Altoona's win streak to six straight games, the longest of the season. It also marked a fourth straight game in which the Curve came from behind to earn a win against the RubberDucks.
In the eighth, Altoona loaded the bases with two outs against former future Curve lefty Michael Kennedy using two hits and a walk. Moss lifted an 0-2 pitch from Kennedy into the left field bleachers to take a 4-2 lead. It was Altoona's fifth Grand Slam of the season, first at PNG Field.
Mike Walsh finished off the win, working around a pair of hits in the ninth inning. With one out, Akron's Jace LaViolette bounced into a fielder's choice in which Moss fielded a slow ground ball and threw out a runner at the plate to keeping the game at 4-2. Walsh struck Aaron Walton out to wrap up the win.
Starter Matt Ager fired seven strong innings, scattering nine hits and two runs across his outing. Ager did not issue a walk, the first time in eight starts, and kept the ball in the yard as he matched his career-long outing for the third time in a Curve uniform.
Moss's home run finished off a 3-for-4 day at the plate for the Curve slugger. Murf Gray went 1-for-3 with a walk extending his on-base streak to 16 games on Friday night.
Altoona continues the series with Akron on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. RHP Yonleg Gaetano will take the mound for Altoona as the RubberDucks send RHP Ryan Degges to the hill.
