Joseph A. 'Tuffy' Sheaffer Sr., 87, of Lewistown, passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2026 at his home.
Born Feb. 1, 1939, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late James H. Sheaffer Sr. and Emma E. (Wills) Sheaffer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna J. Sheaffer; son, Joseph A. Sheaffer Jr.; granddaughter, Tara Jo Sheaffer; and siblings, Clare Sunday, Richard Staley, Flo Staley-Duke, James H. Sheaffer Jr., Guy N. Sheaffer, Maxine Crosson, Jane Shilling, Patricia Kline, Kennard Sheaffer. Joseph was the last of his immediate family.
He is survived by his children, Daniel E. Sheaffer, and Kimbra Jo Sheaffer-Packard, both of Lewistown; grandchildren, Hunter Packard, Trevor Packard, Naithan Sheaffer and wife, Tawnya, Alonnah Sheaffer, and Josh Sheaffer; great-grandchildren, Norah, Kaysen, and Benson; daughter-in-law, Lori Sheaffer.
Joseph was a United States Army veteran. He worked as a cabinet maker for many years and later retired from J-Wood. He went on to work for Felmlee Lures, where he took pride in crafting and assembling world-class lures.
He was a lifetime member of City Hook & Ladder, a place where he found camaraderie and purpose over the years. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of shooting pool and bowling, and he had a soft spot for the birds and squirrels he fed and watched with quiet affection. In his younger days, roller-skating brought him joy and energy, a memory that stayed bright throughout his life. He was a devoted fan of the Phillies and Penn State.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Heart Association, and American Veterans Association.
