Nittany Valley Symphony to open season with ‘Dreams of the Forest’

BELLEFONTE — The Nittany Valley Symphony will open its season Sunday, Sept. 20, with “Dreams of the Forest,” a concert featuring works by Debussy, Sibelius and Brahms. The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bellefonte Area High School. The program will open with Claude Debussy’s “Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun,” followed by Jean Sibelius’ rarely performed tone poem “The Wood Nymph.” “The Wood Nymph” disappeared from the concert stage after 1936 and was not performed again until its rediscovery 60 years later in 1996.
