Crashes keep police busy
State Route 322 crash injures Rockledge man
LEWISTOWN — Two crashes kept police busy on sunday evening.
Rain and possibly speed are believed to be factors in a crash that occured on state Route 322 westbound, in Derry Township.
A vehicle came around the turn on state Route 322 entering the Narrows, Mifflin County Regional Police Department Sgt. Andre French said. French explained that Peter Scharf, 21, of Rockledge, lost control of his vehicle coming into the turn. French said the circumstances of the crash and what happened are similar to other crashes that have happened recently in the same area.
Scharf’s vehicle rolled over, crossed both lanes of traffic and hit the concrete berrier.
French said there was no indication that Scharf was driving under the influence and he did suffer moderate injuries.
French also said this was the second crash of the day within that area, and that an additional crash occurred further in the Narrows, but did not have any information on those crashes.
Police were assisted on the scene by Highland Park and City Hook and Ladder fire companies, Derry Township Fire Police and Fame EMS.
A second crash occurred at 9:13 p.m. along state Route 522 north in Derry Township. This, again, was a roll-over crash, which ended with the vehicle in a ditch. The driver of the vehicle was able to get out and only suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. MCRPD were still investigating the cause of this crash as of press time Sunday night.
