Commissioners recognize dozens of veterans

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County commissioners welcomed a packed room on Thursday, where nearly70 area Vietnam veterans were recognized for their service.

Veterans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces between 1955 and 1975 were honored with a 50th anniversary Vietnam War Commemoration pin during the commissioners regular meeting.

Mifflin County Commissioner Kevin Kodish said 68 veterans received pins out of about 130 who registered.

The turnout to the meeting was so large that it was relocated from the commissioners meeting room to the Mifflin County courthouse annex building in order to facilitate attendees.

Thursday’s ceremony was the second event hosted by commissioners and the fourth locally that has recognized Vietnam veterans, but it may not be the last.

Kodish said the county is still looking to recognize any other Vietnam veterans who have not received pins.

“If there are veterans out there who haven’t received a pin, they should contact us,” he said.
