LEWISTOWN -- The Pennsylvania Department of Education is now on social media.

The department recently launched its own Pinterest page, featuring "pins" in the areas of STEM, music, art, reading and writing, food and nutrition, college, career readiness,

physical fitness and more.

"By engaging students, families and educators digitally, the department is using new and innovative ways to meet communities where they are," Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera said in a press release. "Pinterest is a powerful planning tool that provides significant value to users. The department is proud to offer this new platform to residents of the commonwealth and hopes that Pennsylvanians will engage with the helpful resources provided."

For teachers, the page offers classroom ideas and educational apps. There are ideas for summer reading lists, crafts and holiday activities.

Parents and students also can reference the page for classroom resources, driver safety information and more.

The Pinterest page operates under the handle @PADeptOfEd and includes both original and shared content. The new resource is an expansion of PDE's existing online presence, which includes Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
