Greetings to all. We had another 8/10 rain over Sunday, so things keep green and growing. Cornfields and more are very nice. Today is sweet corn day. I helped to clean it and Nannie creams it off. There seems to be plenty of sweet corn around at the produce stands and more. Now the sun comes out nice and bright, so maybe those having laundry out can have a drying day. What better way to dry it than outside in the fresh air and sunshine.
Mather and I had welcome callers on Saturday morning, the 15th, when John and Julia, Elizabeth and Katie Swareys stopped in. They came to the valley on Friday and wanted to visit Friday and Saturday from Ohio. Our Sunday callers were Jonas and Katie Peight and Bennie and Lizzie.
Jacob, son of Rufus and Leah Peachey, got two of his fingers cut off at work. One was hanging by the skin, and surgery was done to repair it, reattach it, and he was having feelings in it. Not a nice experience. He was in Hershey Hospital to have it repaired. Address is 905 Jacks Mtn Rd, McVey town Pa 17051.
Sister and viewed the eclipse of the sun on Wednesday the 12th; it looked like a tiny bite out of the sun, as it was only 15% covered. We used eclipse glasses. Now, an eclipse of the moon on the 27th, likely around midnight and after, if someone wants to get out of bed to watch.
The barn swallows are likely soon ready to head for their winter home. Amazing how they can do flights like that. We notice we already have more flies, but maybe the flies are plentiful with the damp, humid weather. The nights cool off more. It’s something how fast the summer went by and by the time we read this, school will be in session if plans hold. The plan is to start on Monday, Aug. 24. Almost hard to keep track of how many schools or who all are teaching. We wish all a nice school term.
