Granville Township agrees to data center forum

Commissioners say public meeting will allow residents to weigh in on proposal

From staff reports

LEWISTOWN — Granville Township officials have agreed to move forward with setting up a public meeting regarding a proposed data center project, according to local officials.

The update follows a call from Mifflin County commissioners urging township officials and the developer to hold a public forum to provide residents with information and an opportunity to ask questions.

Commissioners said a joint public meeting involving township officials and the company would allow the developer to outline potential impacts, benefits and project timelines, while also giving residents a chance to share feedback.

Officials said projects of this scale can generate both interest and concern, and emphasized the need for clear communication early in the process.

“Projects like this naturally generate interest and, at times, concern,” Commissioner Rob Postal said. “Providing a setting where accurate information can be shared directly — and where residents can engage in a respectful, fact-based discussion — is an important step in building understanding and trust.”

Kodish noted that any proposed data center would be subject to local zoning regulations and state land-use laws as part of the review and approval process.

Commissioners also said the forum should be structured to ensure a balanced exchange, with local officials facilitating the discussion and the developer available to address technical questions.

“We believe it is in the best interest of everyone involved — the township, the developer and most importantly the residents of Granville Township — to come together in an open and transparent setting,” Kodish said.

Commissioner Noah Wise said the board remains committed to supporting municipalities in encouraging public engagement and communication as economic development projects move forward.
