MIFFLINTOWN -- Five Mifflintown residents have been displaced by a house fire early Saturday morning at 100 N. Third St., according to local first responders.
Around 4:10 a.m. Saturday, Juniata County 911 dispatchers received calls about a fire at the residence, located at the intersection of North Third and Orange streets, which consisted of three apartments.
Mifflintown Hose Co. No. 1 Capt. Tyler Mingle arrived on scene and reported heavy fire showing from the rear of the residence. Mifflintown Hose Co. Chief Jeremy Henry assumed command when he arrived on scene. As crews began to arrive, they aggressively attacked the fire, which stopped it from spreading. Two of the apartments suffered moderate to severe damage, while the third received minor to moderate damage.
Henry reported that one occupant was assisted from the residence upon the first responders arriving. The five, who were displaced by the fire, are being assisted by the Red Cross.
Henry credited the fast response, strong work ethic and training of the initial responders for saving the entire house from burning to the ground. He marked the fire under control around 5:30 a.m. and has since turned the investigation over to the Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal.
Friendship Fire Co. of Port Royal, Fayette Fire Co., Beale Township Fire Co., Thompsontown Fire Co., Chief Logan Fire Co., Central Juniata Emergency Medical Services, Port Royal EMS and Fayette Township EMS assisted crews from Mifflintown Hose Co. Crews from Junction Fire Co., Granville Fire Co. and Heritage Fire Co. were transferred into Juniata County stations to standby during the fire.
