LEWISTOWN -- Burnham scored two runs in the seventh inning to edge Strode Mills, 9-7, on Sunday in a key game in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.
The win for Burnham knocked Strode Mills out of the undefeated ranks.
Burnham used two sacrifices to score the runs in the seventh. Liam Shaffer had a sacrifice fly and Evan Breon knocked in a run with a sacrifice bunt.
Jayden Smith got the win as he pitched to just one batter in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lincoln Ruble pitched into the sixth. Strode Mills scored all seven of its runs in the first three innings of the game. Ruble held the Strode Mills bats at bay until the Burnham offense tied the game in the sixth. Chase Leister got the save as he pitched a scoreless seventh.
After Ruble went off the mound in the sixth, he moved to shortstop and with runners on second and third, he jumped and got a line drive that looked like it was going to score two runs off the bat of Brayden Hunter.
Strodes Mills finished with nine hits. Chase Moore continued his early season hot streak with three hits. Hunter added two more hits for Strodes.
Burnham had six hits.Fletcher Wilson had a big two RBI single in the fourth. Burnham tied the game in the sixth on two wild pitches.
Milroy 8,
McVeytown 0
At McVeytown, Blaze Shreffler pitched and batted Milroy to its first victory of the year with an 8-0 win over McVeytown.
Shreffler pitched a complete game as he gave up just two hits,struck out 10 and walked no one.
With the bat Shreffler scored three runs, had two hits including a triple and knocked in two runs.
Jarren Kennyand Michael Wilson each had two hits for MIlroy. Kooper Walters finished off the win with an RBI base hit in the seventh. Carson Cherry had the only two hits for McVeytown.
Belleville 11,
Lewistown 7
At Belleville, Belleville won its first game of the year as it outlasted Lewistown, 11-7. The game ended after five and half innings due to darkness.
Dekker Pietzsch was the star of the game for Belleville as he was the winning pitcher, Landon Rhodes, a rookie, got the final five outs. Pietzach struck out seven in his five plus innings of work.
Pietzach got Belleville off to a good start as he hit a two run homer in the first inning.
Lewistown led 5-3 after one inning and 7-3 after two, but the Big Valley club rallied for eight runs in the third and fourth innings to gain the win.
Wyatt Kauffman had three hits for Belleville and Rhodes added two with a double.
Lewistown finished with six hits and Max Yoder was the only multiple hitter with two.
Beaver Springs 7, Belltown 5
At Belltown, Beaver Springs scored seven runs in the middle innings to beat Belltown. 7-5. The win knocked Belltown from The undefeated ranks. Reedsville is now in first place with a 3-0 record.
Landon Hartman got the win for the Springs in relief. Noah Wert started the game for Beaver Springs and pitched three scoreless innings.
Beaver Springs had seven hits with Braxton Smith and Wert each getting two, The big hit for the Springs came in the fifth when Wyatt Shellenberger had a two run double that made the difference in the game. Belltown only had two hits from Tristin Pent and Kyle Shirk.
