Two dead, one injured in Pittsburgh shooting

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Authorities say two men are dead and a woman critically injured in what appears to have been a murder-suicide in a Pittsburgh home where a 9-year-old boy was found hiding in the basement.

Authorities said a 37-year-old woman, her 46-year-old boyfriend, Christopher Dancy, and her son were in the Knoxville home when a man believed to have been an ex-boyfriend came and opened fire at about 8 p.m. Saturday.

Public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said the woman was hit in the chest and leg and taken to UPMC Mercy in critical condition. The boy ran and hid in the basement. The bodies of the two men were found on the second floor.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office ruled Dancy's death a homicide and said 47-year-old Joseph Goldsmith killed himself.

Police: Girl, 3, died of gunshot wound

PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Authorities in western Pennsylvania are investigating the death of a 3-year-old girl in Pittsburgh from a gunshot wound.

The city's public safety department said the girl was brought into Allegheny General Hospital shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday with a single gunshot wound. The child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators said the child was shot in a home in the Mount Washington neighborhood, and the mother left the residence "with her daughter in her arms." Police said a driver took them to the hospital. The circumstances of the shooting are under investigation.

Man charged with woman's strangulation

ATLANTIC (AP) -- A northwestern Pennsylvania coroner says a woman found dead in a mobile home was strangled, and her death has been ruled a homicide for which a man is facing charges.

State police in Crawford County were called to the Pinedale Mobile Home Park in East Fallowfield Township at about 10:30 a.m. Friday and found the body of 45-year-old Julie Willey.

The Erie Times-News reports that Coroner Scott Schell ruled Saturday following an autopsy in Erie that Willey died from asphyxiation due to strangulation.

Police believe she was killed early Friday.

Forty-five-year-old James Lucas, identified by police as the victim's boyfriend, has been charged with criminal homicide and strangulation.

Court documents don't list an attorney who could comment on the charges; a listed number for Lucas had been disconnected.
