Special events at Port Royal, Selinsgrove

Two area speedways host special events this evening.Port Royal Speedway presents Salute to The Military Night with past and present military personnel admitted free. All one must do is present a valid military ID or VA card to gain admission. Late models, 305 and 410 sprint cars and xtreme stocks make up the card. The night serves as the 410 sprint drivers' final tune up before next week's Living Legends Dream Race. Late models compete in a 25-lap double points feature. Outlaws are top draw this weekend

The month of money continues.Williams Grove Speedway hosted the first day of the World of Outlaws Summer Nationals Friday. Tonight's feature winner receives at least $20,000. Look for Stevie Smith, Greg Hodnett or Danny Dietrich to have the best shot to defeat the traveling stars led by Donny Schatz, who has already claimed 20 Outlaw A-Mains this season.Port Royal and Lincoln are dark this evening because of the Summer National program at Williams Grove. Speedways have big plans

Kids activities are part of two area race programs tonight. Port Royal and Lincoln Speedways host their annual "Kids Night" with plenty of giveway items. Both should feature some great racing.At Port Royal the late models compete in a championship event and are joined by the econo lates and sprint cars.Lincoln honors fallen firefighter Brandon Little by hosting a 33 lap sprint car race which pays the winner $5,000. The sprint car month of money is almost upon us. That time is considered mid-July to the conclusion of the Knoxville, Iowa, Sprint Car Nationals. Month of Money races are contested in Pennsylvania, Ohio and other states in the Midwest. Before the official start of the program, there are other major races around the region.Ohio Sprint Car Speedweek was rain shortened, resulting in a surprise champion - Greg Wilson beat heavy favorite Dale Blaney. One of the biggest weeks in local racing is upon us. Pennsylvania sprint car speedweek was scheduled to start last night at Williams Grove Speedway. Action is slated tonight at Lincoln Speedway before moving to Path Valley tomorrow. After a break Monday, the remainder of the week includes Grandview Tuesday, Hagerstown, Md., Wednesday, Lincoln Thursday, Williams Grove Friday, Port Royal Saturday, and Selinsgrove Sunday. UFO late models visit on camera, autograph night

The UFO late model series visits the Port Royal Speedway tonight. The traveling drivers compete in a 35-lap A-main that pays the winner $3,000. Also in action are 410 sprint cars and econo lates. Fans arriving early may visit the pit area for camera and autograph night.Port Royal late model winners this season include Mike Lupfer, Matt Parks, Gregg Satterlee, Jason Schmidt, Jim Yoder and Dylan Yoder.
