EAGLES PASS, TX--Despite Mifflin County's 10-6 loss to Florida, it will advance to the single elimination bracket of the tournament.
The lowest Mifflin County can now finish is tied for fifth in the Babe Ruth 15-year-old World Series.
Mifflin County will now play either North Dakota or Mississippi today at 8 p.m.
In its histroy, Mifflin County has a 1-1 record against North Dakota, but has never played Mississippi. Meridan, Michigan was in the 2019 13-year-old World Series and finished in a tie for third.
This will mark the fourth time that a Mifflin County team has made it to the top six in the country.
In 2002, Mifflin County was 2-2 and loss to Florida, 1-0, in single elimination for a tie for fifth place. Then in 2016, the Mifflin County 13-year-olds ran the table and came home as national champions.
Two years later, the Mifflin County 15-year-olds made it back to the national finals, but lost to Tallahassee 7-4.
The only time Mifflin County didn't make it to single elimination was in 2004. The local All-Stars (15-year-olds) were in the final game of pool play against Southern Washington. The game was tied, 2-2, after seven innings, but Mifflin County lost in the bottom of the eighth on a walk-off two-run homer.
Mifflin County finished in a tie for seventh place.
Each World Series, Mifflin County has lost to the eventual national champion, except in 2016 when it was the national champion.
