Whisler: Locals are recognized in insert
Without a spring sports season, many high school and college athletes have been left with nothing to show for the hard work that they had put in during the offseason months.
In an effort to acknowledge the athletes that have continued to find success in The Sentinel’s coverage area in high school and at the next level, The Sentinel has put together the 2020 Sentinel Sports Showcase, to recognize athletes that have signed to participate at the next level, as well as some of those athletes that have already found success in college.
In the past few weeks, with the help of Kyle Brady and Lucas Lenze, we have compiled a list of athletes who have competed at our local high schools that have signed their letters of intent, as well as those who are already on the field in college.
We hope that the book is well received and that it can serve as a positive source of sports content in difficult times.
While we have done countless interviews in the past two-three weeks, not everyone could fit in the book. We plan to continue to unveil our stories on the sports pages to make sure that we properly honor the talented athletes in this area and allow their stories to be told.
The following athletes appear in today’s book: Garrett Baublitz (Juniata), Brian Yetter (Mifflin County), Josie Swartz (Juniata), Chayce Macknair (Mifflin County), Thea Neimond (East Juniata), Madison McDonald (East Juniata), Seth Phillips (Mifflin County), Tristin Lockett (Mifflin County), Nylah Pannebaker (Juniata), Tad Shellenberger (Juniata) and Carly Orris (Juniata).
The Sentinel has reached out to many of our local athletes and their colleges, but it is possible that someone may be accidentally omitted. If you know of a college athlete who graduated from a school in our coverage area who hasn’t appeared and you would like to see a story on them in an upcoming edition of The Sentinel, feel free to reach out to me through email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our coverage area is full of quality athletes and I strive to share their stories with you.
