Nace Memorial at Selinsgrove tonight

Selinsgrove Speedway presents the 34th annual Jim Nace Memorial National Open for 410 sprint cars this evening. The event closes the first season of promotion under Steve Inch, Alan Kreitzer and Michael Heffner. The trio announced a restructured program that should be attractive to racers and fans. The main event has been shortened to 30 laps in an attempt to prevent the need for a fuel stop. The purse has been changed – the winner earns $8,000. Starting the event is worth $600.

Fans should like the fact the general admission price has been lowered to $25.

The super late models also are in action tonight at Selinsgrove. The feature event is worth $2,000 to the winner.

Who are the drivers to beat tonight at Selinsgrove? Danny Dietrich has to be one. Dietrich is the defending race champion. Dietrich won two other events this season at the Snyder County oval. He dusted the All Stars and later won the Jan Opperman/Dick Bogar Memorial event. Dietrich is also fresh off a win during the Juniata County Fair at Port Royal.

The only other 410 sprint car race run at Selinsgrove this season was won by Greg Hodnett.

Fred Rahmer won the Nace Memorial race a record five times. Greg Hodnett is a four-time winner. Pat Cannon and the late Maynard Yingst visited the winners circle three times during this event. Lance Dewease and Donnie Kreitz Jr. are the only repeat winners of the program to date.

The race honors the late Jim Nace who enjoyed much success at Selinsgrove. Nace passed away in November 2009 after a seven-year battle with cancer. Nace was a true gentleman on and off the speedway.

The Lincoln Speedway hosts super sportsman, legend cars and street stocks this evening. Check the track’s web site for more information.

Hesston Speedway has concluded its 2016 racing season.

Congratulations to Jeff Rine on winning the Route 35 late model challenge contested at Selinsgrove and Port Royal.

The 162nd annual Juniata County Fair is in the record book. Lance Dewease scored his 100th career win at the oval during the Tuscarora 50. Stevie Smith won the preliminary night feature.

Port Royal has three remaining race dates on their season schedule. The next program is Oct. 8 when the Blue Collar Classic will be presented.

The Sprint Cup Chase begins tomorrow at Chicagoland Speedway.

Have a great racing weekend!
