Port Royal Speedway presents senior citizen and $1 hot dog night this evening. The 410 and 305 sprint cars are joined by super late models and xtreme stocks. The program serves as the final tune up before next Saturday night’s Butch Renninger Memorial. That program includes an added purse for stock car classes.
It’s hard to believe the big track at Selinsgrove Speedway has just three scheduled races remaining in the 2016 season. Tonight is the final points events for all regular classes. Next Saturday the World of Outlaws late models invade the Snyder County oval for the National Open for late models.
Lincoln Speedway hosts the 410 and 358 sprint cars plus street stocks this evening. Kids big wheel racing is also on the program.
Hesston Speedway features a street stock special event tonight. Ronnie Aurand saw part of his season improve last week after scoring a fine second place finish at Hesston Speedway.
Bedford Speedway will present the Labor Day 55 late model program next weekend. The winner of the super late model feature receives $5,055.
Fred Rahmer will attempt to promote his second event of the season tomorrow at Path Valley Speedway with 410 sprint cars and 600 micros on the schedule. Confirmed entries include Greg Hodnett, Lucas Wolfe, Danny Dietrich, Aaron Ott and others. Hot laps start at 6:30.
Jason Bulick, a 358 sprint car owner, is fielding a race car at Trailways Speedway. Bulick’s car recently won a feature event at the Adams County oval. He and brother Eric Parker are from Lewistown and stay with 358/360 sprint car racing. Their grandfather was the late Johnny Dubendorf, 1964 Port Royal Speedway sprint car champion?
Were you as shocked as I was when the king, Steve Kinser, announced his retirement during Grandview Speedway’s program earlier this week? I hate to see Kinser retire but understand when they say it’s time. I’ll be glad he retired uninjured.
Mike Erdley parted ways with the Chiapelli racing team after last Saturday night’s program at Port Royal Speedway. Erdley indicated the parting was amicable and that neither party was happy with race performance. Erdley is surveying his options after competing in 19 events with Chiapelli the past two years.
And, Pat Cannon parted ways with the Highlands Tire race team earlier this week. The group were together more than 11 years. No word on a permanent replacement driver yet.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup cars race at Michigan International Speedway tomorrow. NBC Sportsnet has TV coverage.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. will sit out the next two races while trying to recover from concussion symptoms. Don’t look for Earnhardt to race before mid September.
Earnhardt will make an appearance at the Lewistown Wal-Mart on Wednesday. A meet and greet will be held from 4-6 p.m., limited to 200 people that will receive wristbands. There also will be a question and answer session with Earnhardt open to the public.
