Happy Father’s Day weekend to all. Port Royal Speedway celebrates with 410 sprint cars, super late models, econo lates and xtreme stock cars tonight. Fans are invited to bring their cameras for a photo and autograph session before racing starts.
The speedway will be dark next Saturday as PA Sprint Car Speedweek gets underway.
Selinsgrove Speedway presents the 13th running of the Joe Whitcomb Memorial race sanctioned by the Patriot sprint car group. Whitcomb lost his life in 360 sprint car action June 21, 2003, at Selinsgrove. Joining the open wheel racers are super late models, pro stocks and roadrunners. The Snyder County oval switches to their summer starting time of 7:30 tonight.
Lincoln Speedway hosts a three-division open wheel program – 410 and 358 sprint cars plus super sportsman.
Hesston Speedway has a super late model program tonight that pays the winner $2,000.
Susquehanna Speedway hosts 305 sprint cars and support classes.
For the most part area tracks are gearing up for the start of Speedweek. Stevie Smith is the defending champion. Action gets underway next Friday at Williams Grove Speedway. Lincoln Speedway hosts Saturday action. Sunday Fred Rahmer presents Path Valley Speedway’s edition of the series. After a day off, Grandview Speedway resumes action on June 28. Hagerstown Speedway follows on June 29, then it’s off to Port Royal. On July 1 it’s back to Williams Grove for the Mitch Smith Memorial. A day later it’s back to Port Royal. Action concludes July 3 at Selinsgrove.
Also happening next weekend is the three-day Latimore Vallley Fair at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing between Dillsburg and York Springs. The old time country fair benefits the museum in its efforts to preserve the history of area auto racing. Saturday, vintage race cars will be on display and there will be exhibition races on the fairgrounds speedway. Sunday activities include an antique tractor and gas engine display. Daily activities include arts, crafts, musical entertainment, games and bingo.
Ohio Sprint Car Speedweek is underway. NASCAR driver Kyle Larson is scheduled to compete in six of eight events. Action began last night at Attica Speedway. Kasey Kahne posted on social media he was en route to Attica Friday. No word if Kahne planned to compete. Ohio Sprint Car Speedweek is sanctioned by Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions.
Bryan Clauson indicates he will return for several Speedweek shows. Clauson recently competed in the USAC Sprint Car Eastern Storm series, winning several races. Clauson also raced in this year’s Indy 500.
Greg Hodnett is the leading sprint car winner in the nation this season. Hodnett started the weekend with 12 wins. Donny Schatz currently owns nine wins with the World of Outlaws.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. raced a dirt midget car last night at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. No word on the finishing order at deadline. The program was sanctioned by USAC.
