The World of Outlaws have a new title sponsor. Sears Roebuck Corp. and The World of Outlaws reached agreement on a three-year deal that provides sponsorship from Sears to the sprint car and late model series. Both parties have option years to extend the agreement. Sears Craftman Tools is the featured brand.
The deal provides needed stability to the World Racing Group and Outlaw race teams. It’s a win for Sears as many race teams use the company’s products.
Doug Esh is excited to start the 2016 racing season. The Lancaster veteran told me his Mark Coldren-owned race team has the best equipment he’s raced in some time. When Coldren and Esh met to plan their season, they decided a top mechanic was a priority. Dennis Kohler’s services were procured. It isn’t the first time Esh and Kohler worked together. The pair enjoyed success racing for Dick Leach a few years back. Pictures of the new car can be found on social media. The group will travel to Florida for the Dirt Car Nationals at Volusia Raceway Park.
Alan Krimes has enjoyed success the last two seasons despite being a low-dollar racer. Krimes is saddened by the departure of mechanic Dennis Kohler to the Mark Coldren/Doug Esh race team.
Shark Racing drivers Logan Schuchart and Jacob Allen left early for Florida. The team is visiting family and friends before racing action starts. Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars kick things off this weekend at the fifth annual Bubba Army Winter Nationals at Bubba Raceway Park. The UMP Modifieds join the All Stars, led by drivers Kenny Wallace, Kenny Schrader, Buzzie and David Reutimann. Look for other NASCAR drivers to also be in action. The 2016 Port Royal Speedway race schedule has been released with 31 shows scheduled. One note of interest is the spring All Star race has been renamed the Keith Kauffman Classic. The program was previously know as the Bob Weikert Memorial race.
The Weikert race has been moved to Memorial Day weekend and will now be a three-day show. Night racing takes place Friday and Saturday. Action concludes Memorial Day afternoon.
Mark your calendar for Feb. 27. Lincoln Speedway hosts the Icebreaker for 410 sprint cars. Sunday rain dates are available at the start of the season.
The Volusia Speedway Park Dirt Car Nationals begin Tuesday night and conclude on Feb. 20. Next week’s schedule features All Star and World of Outlaws sprint car racing and UMP modifieds. Updates are available nightly on social media.
Despite the winter weather, area speedways continue with improvements. New seating will be available at Port Royal and Susquehanna speedways. Pictures are posted on social media.
