The Appalachian Mountains Late Model Speedweek invades Port Royal Speedway tonight for a $4,000 to win program. The sprint cars and xtreme stocks are also part of the program.
Port Royal will honor the late Charlie Grinestaff with tonight’s event. Grinestaff was a top competitor from the 1950s to the 1970s. The Willow Lane driver won 44 career feature events through out the region. Tim McCready of Watertown, N.Y., won last year’s event.
Selinsgrove Speedway features pro stocks in a 20-lap time trial event along with 360 sprint cars, late models and roadrunners.
At Lincoln Speedway it’s 358 and 410 sprint cars plus All American Outlaw cars.
Next week will be busy for Bedford Speedway as it hosts Kids Night Friday and a regular show Sunday when the All Star Circuit of Champions sprint cars return after several years’ absence.
The USAC wingless sprint cars invade Central Pennsylvania next week and stop Saturday at Port Royal Speedway. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing also visits. Port Royal officials honor Elmer Ruby and Junior Ritchey with their annual Founders Awards.
Congratulations to Rick Singleton on winning last Monday night’s topless 358 late model feature at Bedford Speedway.
Hesston Speedway hosted a successful UFO late model show last Saturday won by Keith Jackson of Martinsburg, W.V.
Greg Hodnett scored win No. 7 of the year at Selinsgrove Speedway Sunday night (his sixth in Central Pennsylvania) capturing the Ray Tilley Classic.
Brian Montieth is red hot at Williams Grove Speedway. Entering Friday’s action Montieth had won three of the last four sprint car features run there.
Here’s a couple other things to ponder: Montieth, Hodnett and Danny Dietrich have won 16 of 29 feature events run in the state entering the weekend. Hodnett has recorded 22 top-five finishes and only failed to finish twice.
Justin Henderson swept both the 360 and 410 sprint car feature events last Saturday night at Knoxville, Iowa, Speedway.
Tim Shaffer broke his victory slump last week at Freemont, Ohio. The Pennsylvania driver competes regularly with the All Stars. Shaffer has won four All Star championships but won only one race last season. Hopefully Shaffer is getting back on track.
It was nice to hear that Duane Maustellar returned to Selinsgrove Speedway as a spectator last Saturday for the first time since his career-ending accident May 17, 2014. Maustellar received a warm welcome from all.
Finally, Bruce Ellis and Donnie Kreitz Jr. are set to be inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame this evening at Knoxville. Congratulations to both.
