GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Penn State women’s tennis team opened the 2025 fall season at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic over the weekend. Brianna Baldi had a standout weekend in her first appearance as a Nittany Lion, going undefeated in singles and winning two-of-three doubles matches. Baldi was joined by Olivia Dorner, Maelie Monfils and Patricia Grigoras on the campus of Furman University. UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (4-1, 0-0 B1G) dominated visiting Kent State (1-4) in non-conference field hockey action Sunday, wrapping up a string of four straight home games. The Nittany Lions rolled to a 5-2 win over Kent State, riding the strength of 25 shots and goals from five different players. James Franklin isn’t the type of coach who will be grumpy after a win, let alone a 52-6 dismantling of Villanova on Saturday. On paper, scoring 52 points looks impressive. UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (3-1, 0-0 B1G) downed visiting Bucknell (2-3) in non-conference field hockey action Friday at Char Morett-Curtiss Field. The Nittany Lions rode a two-goal halftime lead to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Bison. Penn State spent the first minutes of the game pushing back an early Bucknell press. Some nitpicking as the Nittany Lions prepare to wrap up their preseason schedule: Penn State’s move to the Big Ten – its first football season was 1993 – has been a huge success. It has provided long-term stability, especially financially, in what has become one of the nation’s top two conferences along with the SEC.
