Lions conclude Debbie Southern Fall Classic

GREENVILLE, S.C. - The Penn State women’s tennis team opened the 2025 fall season at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic over the weekend. Brianna Baldi had a standout weekend in her first appearance as a Nittany Lion, going undefeated in singles and winning two-of-three doubles matches. Baldi was joined by Olivia Dorner, Maelie Monfils and Patricia Grigoras on the campus of Furman University. Monfils and Baldi made their debuts in the Blue & White after transferring from Florida State and Wake Forest respectively. The first day consisted of two rounds of doubles and one of ...

Lady Lions drop Kent State, 5-2

UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (4-1, 0-0 B1G) dominated visiting Kent State (1-4) in non-conference field hockey action Sunday, wrapping up a string of four straight home games. The Nittany Lions rolled to a 5-2 win over Kent State, riding the strength of 25 shots and goals from five different players. Natalie Freeman began the game by charging into the KSU circle and forcing a penalty stroke at the 14:28 mark. Morgan Snyder knocked the penalty in, and Penn State led 1-0 early. But Kent State immediately answered back. The Flashes moved quickly ...

Despite being 3-0, Lions have room to grow

James Franklin isn’t the type of coach who will be grumpy after a win, let alone a 52-6 dismantling of Villanova on Saturday. On paper, scoring 52 points looks impressive. But it was at least a little eye-opening when the Lions only led 13-0 until the final minute of the first half. Drew Allar may have been a little more accurate than he was in last week’s 34-0 shutout over Florida International, but there was still more to be desired. He finished the day 16 for 29 with 209 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Allar said he may have been “overthinking” situations last ...

Lions topple Bucknell, 2-1

UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (3-1, 0-0 B1G) downed visiting Bucknell (2-3) in non-conference field hockey action Friday at Char Morett-Curtiss Field. The Nittany Lions rode a two-goal halftime lead to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Bison. Penn State spent the first minutes of the game pushing back an early Bucknell press. The Nittany Lions worked the ball into the Bison zone at the 12:15 mark. Bucknell held off Penn State through the 10:00 mark and the game continued in a scoreless tie to the first period’s midway point. Natalie Freeman made ...

Villanova helped shape PSU’s future

Some nitpicking as the Nittany Lions prepare to wrap up their preseason schedule: Penn State’s move to the Big Ten – its first football season was 1993 – has been a huge success. It has provided long-term stability, especially financially, in what has become one of the nation’s top two conferences along with the SEC. That said, older followers of the Nittany Lions (count me in) can still look back with a measure of regret that an Eastern conference didn’t come together when it was in the works in the early 1980s. Decisions then eventually cost longstanding rivalries ...

Penn State opens Big Ten play by facing Rutgers

UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State men's soccer kicks off the 2025 Big Ten campaign when the team travels to Rutgers on Friday, at Yurcak Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on B1G+. KICKIN’ IT Penn State men’s soccer looks to return to the Big Ten Tournament this year after a falter in the 2024 season, and earn an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time since the 2021 season. The Blue and White recently got back to a .500 record with a dominant 5-0 win over Mercyhurst at Jeffrey Field. Malick Daouda, Caden Grabfelder, and Kai Phillip were each named Big Ten Players to Watch in the ...
