UNIVERSITY PARK -- The Penn State women's hockey team announced ten newcomers for the upcoming season with two transfers and eight newcomers set to join the program for the 2026-27 season. Representing seven states and two Canadian provinces, the class is composed of six forwards, two defenseman, and two goalies.
"We are amped about the incoming Class of 2030,” said head coach Jeff Kampersal. “These young women are goal-oriented student-athletes with a team-first mindset. They are talented and gritty. WE ARE motivated to help them develop holistically at Penn State."
Kylie Amelkovich • #6 • First Year • 5-8 • Forward • Shoots: L • Glen Ellyn, Ill • Shattuck-St Mary's / U18 TEAM USA
Prior to Penn State: Amelkovich spent five seasons at Shattuck-St. Mary’s. She competed with the Prep team from 2023-26, appearing in 152 games while recording 76 goals and 83 assists for 159 points. Amelkovich helped Shattuck-St. Mary’s capture the 2024 USA Hockey U19 National Championship. Before joining the Prep team, she skated for the U16 team from 2021-23, totaling 33 goals and 42 assists for 75 points in 110 games.
Amelkovich also represented Team USA at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in both 2025 and 2026. In 2026, she was named assistant captain, and appeared in all six games, recording two goals and 12 assists for 14 points while helping the United States become the first team in tournament history to complete a “perfect gold,” never trailing or being tied at any point during the tournament. Team USA capped its undefeated run with a 2-0 victory over Canada in the gold-medal game.
Amelkovich also represented the United States at the 2025 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, appearing in all six games and totaling three goals and two assists for five points while helping Team USA earn the silver medal.
Alanna Devlin • #3 • Junior • 5-5 • Forward • Shoots: R • Marshfield, Mass • Boston College
Prior to Penn State: Devlin played two seasons at Boston College tallying nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points and earned Hockey East All-Academic team honors freshman year.
Before Boston College, Devlin competed for North American Hockey Academy (NAHA) for four seasons, appearing in 220 games while totaling 83 goals and 117 assists for 200 points. She served as team captain during her senior season and helped lead NAHA to two Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL) championships. Devlin earned JWHL First Team All-Star honors as a senior and was named NAHA Co-Offensive MVP alongside current Penn State teammate Mikah Keller in 2023-24. She also received the NAHA Hawk Award following the 2022-23 season.
Megan Hosman • #5 • First Year • 5-10 • Defense • Shoots: R • Ann Arbor, MI • Loomis Chaffee School / Mid Fairfield Stars
Prior to Penn State: Hosman competed for Loomis Chaffee School and the Mid Fairfield Stars for four seasons. She recorded 29 points in 28 games while serving as team captain during her senior season at Loomis Chaffee. Hosman was named the New England Hockey Journal Defender of the Year in back-to-back seasons, earned consecutive All-NEPSAC honors and received the Barbara Erickson Senior Athletic Achievement Award. She helped lead Loomis Chaffee to consecutive NEPSAC Elite Eight championships in 2025 and 2026. Hosman also won a USA Hockey National Championship with the Mid-Fairfield Stars in 2023. She was invited to the USA Hockey 16/17 Player Development Camp in 2025 and attended the USA Hockey U18 Development Camp in 2023 and 2024.
Sofia Ismael • #10 • First Year • 5-5 • Forward • Shoots: R • St. George, Ontario • Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins / U18 TEAM CANADA
Prior to Penn State: Ismael spent three seasons with the Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins U22 team, appearing in 125 games while totaling 71 goals and 100 assists for 171 points. She served as an assistant captain during the 2025-26 season. While attending Victus Academy, Ismael was named the school’s Hockey Player of the Year. She also competed for Crestwood Preparatory College, helping the program capture the 2023 championship while earning Women’s Hockey Player of the Year and MVP honors.
Ismael also represented Team Canada at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in both 2025 and 2026. In 2026, she earned a silver medal while recording seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in six games. In 2025, Ismael helped Team Canada capture the gold medal, appearing in all six games while tallying two goals and two assists.
Ashley Kokavec • #19 • Senior • 5-5 • Defense • Shoots: R • Palm Beach, Fla • University of Vermont
Prior to Penn State: Kokavec played two seasons at the University of Vermont, totaling eight goals and 25 assists for 33 points in 74 career games. During the 2025-26 season, she led all Vermont defenders with 17 points and 14 assists. Her 14 assists tied for third among Hockey East defenders, while her 17 points tied for fourth. Kokavec also recorded a career-high 49 blocked shots to rank second on the team. She added a career-high 127 shots on goal, the second-most on the team, the most among Hockey East defenders, and the seventh-most in the conference. Kokavec earned Hockey East Defender of the Week honors on Jan. 19.
As a sophomore in 2024-25, Kokavec recorded 16 points on five goals and 11 assists to lead all Vermont defenders. She registered 84 shots on goal, ranking among the top five Hockey East defenders, and totaled 47 blocked shots, tied for second on the team. Kokavec was also named Hockey East Co-Defender of the Week following Week 15.
Prior to Vermont, she spent one season at the University of Maine, tallying five goals and six assists for 11 points in 32 games. Kokavec earned Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honors during the 2023-24 season.
Kayla McCarthy • #30 • First Year • 5-10 • Forward • Shoots: L • Pittsburgh, PA • Pittsburgh Penguins Elite
Prior to Penn State: McCarthy previously competed for the Pittsburgh Pens Elite for six seasons. During her senior season, she tallied 20 goals and 21 assists for 41 points in 57 games. Shea also served as an assistant captain during the 2025-26 season after serving as team captain in 2024-25. A five-time USA Hockey National Championship qualifier, McCarthy helped Pens Elite earn consecutive runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2024. She was also a five-time Mid-Am District champion with Pens Elite. McCarthy also attended the CCM 68 camp in 2022 and was selected to the USA Hockey 15 Player Development Camp.
She also previously competed in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) Girls Division with Team Southwest during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. McCarthy helped Team Southwest capture the 2024 PIHL Championship while leading the league in scoring 16 goals and 10 assists for 26 points in 12 games. She also earned the PIHL Academic Award, PIHL Hat Trick Award, and PIHL Playmaker Award.
Sydney McIntosh • #13 • First Year • 5-3 • Forward • Shoots: L • Langley, British Columbia • Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna
Prior to Penn State: McIntosh competed for RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna during the 2025-26 season, recording 13 goals and 26 assists for 39 points in 48 games. She helped lead the program to the 2026 CSSHL Championship title. Prior to RINK Hockey Academy, McIntosh spent two seasons at Shattuck-St. Mary’s, appearing in 53 games while totaling 35 goals and 31 assists for 66 points. She helped Shattuck-St. Mary’s capture the 2024 USA Hockey National Championship. McIntosh also has previously represented Team British Columbia in 2026.
Lorelai Nelson • #18 • First Year • 5-8 • Forward • Shoots: L • Edina, Minn • Edina High School
Prior to Penn State: Nelson played five varsity seasons at Edina High School, appearing in 151 games while totaling 82 goals and 97 assists for 179 points. She helped lead Edina to the 2024 Minnesota State High School Championship and served as team captain during her senior season. Nelson earned All-Conference honors in all four seasons and All-State recognition twice. She was also named a three-time MSHSL All-Tournament Team honoree (2024, 2025, and 2026) and was a finalist for the 2026 Ms. Hockey Award.
Nelson also competed for the Minnesota Lakers Tier I program, helping the team capture the 2026 USA Hockey Tier I National Championship. She won the Minnesota High School Elite League championship and competed in the USA Hockey National Championship. Nelson also helped her team win the Minnesota Hockey Girls U12 State Championship.
She also represented the United States in the 2024 Under-18 Series against Canada. She also participated in USA Hockey’s Player Development Camps five times at the 15, 16, 18, and 19 age levels, including two selections to the Under-19 National Camp.
Morgan Stickney • #1 • First Year • 5-8 • Forward • Catches: L • St. Charles, Mo • Shattuck-St. Mary's / U18 TEAM USA
Prior to Penn State: Stickney competed for four seasons with Shattuck-St. Mary’s, spending two years with the Prep team and two with the U16 squad. From 2024-26, she appeared in 55 games for the Prep team, posting a 1.24 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage. During the 2025-26 season, Stickney recorded 13 shutouts in 34 games while compiling a 1.28 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage. From 2022-24, she played in 68 games with the U16 team, recording a 1.53 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage. She also helped Shattuck-St. Mary’s capture the 2024 USA Hockey National Championship.
Stickney also represented Team USA at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship in both 2025 and 2026.
In 2026, she appeared in two games, recording two shutouts while helping Team USA become the first nation in tournament history to earn a “perfect gold,” never trailing or being tied at any point during the tournament, including its 2-0 victory over Canada in the gold-medal game.
In 2025, Stickney helped Team USA earn the silver medal at the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship. She appeared in six games, posting a 0.67 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage while earning tournament All-Star Team honors. Stickney set multiple tournament records, becoming the first goaltender to record an assist, the first to post shutouts in all three preliminary-round games, and establishing the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship record for longest shutout streak at 183:01.
Savanna Muir • #29 • Junior • 5-6 • Goaltender • Catches: L • Elizabeth, PA • Bishop Kearney Selects
Prior to Penn State: Muir previously competed for Bishop Kearney Selects in the 2025-26 season. She compiled a 9-1 record over 11 starts, with 6 shutouts.
Number Changes
Matilde Fantin • #17 • Sophomore
Rising sophomore forward Matilde Fantin changes her number from #20 to #17 for the upcoming season. She skated in 26 games as a freshman, recording 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points. She also represented the host nation, Italy, at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics.
Fantin appeared in all five Olympic games, scoring three goals to become one of just 16 women to record at least three goals during the tournament.
All three of Fantin’s goals came in Italy’s two victories, helping propel the host nation to the playoff round. She opened the tournament with a goal in Italy’s 4-1 win over France on Feb. 5 before scoring twice in a 3-2 victory over Japan on Feb. 9.
Sophie Morrow • #22 • Sophomore
Rising sophomore forward Sophie Morrow changed her number from #25 to #22 this season. Morrow appeared in all 39 games in her freshamn campaign. She tallied three goals while adding 13 assists for 16 points.
