Lady Lions earn All-Big Ten honors
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Penn State softball program saw four student-athletes secure postseason All-Big Ten accolades, with the Nittany Lions landing one First Team honoree, a pair of Second Team selections, two All-Freshman designees and a Sportsmanship Award winner in the conference office’s release on Friday afternoon.
The Blue & White saw freshman third baseman Allison Oneacre land unanimous First Team All-Big Ten Conference laurels in addition to picking up distinction as a unanimous All-Freshman Team designee. Rookie left fielder Breanna Hanik joined Oneacre on the All-Freshman team, picking up Second Team All-B1G honors in her own right. Junior designated player Brooke Klosowicz appeared on the Big Ten’s Second Team for the second consecutive season, while junior right-handed pitcher McKenna Young rounded out the Penn State quartet, collecting postseason honors as the program’s representative for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
A native of Alpharetta, Georgia, Oneacre is responsible for the greatest offensive season by a Nittany Lion freshman in program history. The rookie sensation finished tied for the team lead in batting average this season with a .367 mark, coupling that with the PSU high in slugging and on-base percentage at .797 and .492, respectively. Oneacre finished her first season in Happy Valley as the program’s single-season record holder in RBI with 61, as well as PSU’s freshman record holder in home runs with 18. She finished two RBI shy of matching the program’s single-season record in homers, falling just short of the legendary Cassidy Bell’s mark of 20 from her First Team All-America campaign in 2013. In total, Oneacre becomes Penn State’s 18th selection to the All-Big Ten First Team and first since junior teammate Bridget Nemeth landed those accolades in 2024. She also landed the third B1G All-Freshman Team honor in school history, also the first since Nemeth in 2024. Oneacre becomes Penn State’s first student-athlete in program history to be named a unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten First Team and Freshman Team in the same season since the program began its run in the Big Ten Conference in 1992.
Hailing from Oak Lawn, Illinois, Hanik closed the book on a stellar inaugural run in the Blue & White with a riotous finish to the 2026 campaign, ending the year on an eight-game hitting streak and 11-game reached-base streak. Hanik finished tied for the team lead with Oneacre in hitting with a .367 average, smacking 54 hits with 42 runs scored, 12 home runs, 10 doubles and 41 RBI. Hanik closed the year as one of just three Nittany Lions to surpass 100 total bases on the season, booking 102 across her 50 games started. The rookie standout finished as one of the premier threats on the basepath in the Big Ten this year, racking up 17 stolen bases on 19 attempts to finish fourth in the league in that statistic. Hanik was a sensation in the outfield this year, fielding to the tune of a .990 fielding percentage with 94 putouts and one outfield assist. She becomes the 36th Second Team All-Big Ten honoree in program history, as well as the fourth Big Ten All-Freshman Team recipient in program history.
Klosowicz, a native of Johnsburg, Illinois, picked up her second consecutive appearance on the All-Big Ten Conference Second Team following yet another standout season of contributions as Penn State’s everyday designated player. The third-year star finished the 2026 campaign batting .347 across her 54 starts, leading the Nittany Lion roster in both hits and at-bats with 60 and 173, respectively. Klosowicz tallied 46 runs over the year, mustering double-digits in the home run and double statistics for the second year in a row. She amassed 15 home runs to rank second on the team behind Oneacre, in addition to legging out 11 doubles following her record-setting year in that category a season ago. Klosowicz became the 37th All-Big Ten Second Team award winner in Penn State program history, joining Hanik with those accolades. She also became PSU’s first repeat Second Team All-B1G selection since 2025 alumna Maddie Gordon accomplished that feat in the 2024 and 2025 seasons with PSU.
The Nittany Lions rounded out their slew of individual accolades with Young’s appearance as a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree. Young was an anchor for Penn State over the course of the 2026 campaign, leading the Nittany Lions with a 12-5 individual record in the circle, coupled with her first save as a Nittany Lion in the B1G Tournament first round win over Northwestern earlier in the week. Young was the only Penn State student-athlete to start at least 30 games and finish with a 1.000 fielding percentage, adding to her acumen as a valuable member of PSU’s five-pitcher staff. The student-athletes chosen for the Sportsmanship Award are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
Penn State concluded its 2026 season on Thursday, May 7, with a quarterfinal exit in the 2026 Big Ten Softball Tournament presented by Allstate. The Blue & White completed the campaign with a 33-21 overall record and mustered 11 wins in Big Ten Conference regular season competition this year, extending the program’s longest streak of double-digit winning conference seasons in program history. Penn State has won at least 30 games in four of the last five seasons and is currently in the midst of one of the most dominant runs of on-field success since the program’s inaugural campaign in 1965.
