Lions fall to Penn State Behrend in semis
ERIE – No. 1 seeded Penn State Behrend scored twice in the first half, before adding two second half goals to hand the No. 5 seeded Penn State Altoona women’s soccer team a 4-0 loss in Wednesday evening’s Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference semifinal match.
With its win, Penn State Behrend (14-3-2, 8-0 AMCC) advances to the AMCC Championship game this Saturday, Nov. 8, when it hosts Pitt Greensburg for a shot at a conference title. Meanwhile, Penn State Altoona (6-6-6, 2-2-4 AMCC) is eliminated from the postseason tournament.
The first goal came off a rebound after Mya Torres (Culpeper, VA/Culpeper County) saved a penalty from Marlene Andrade in the second minute. Two minutes later, Penn State Behrend would double their lead as Rori Kostos scored off a rebound.
Penn State Altoona came out of the halftime break looking to reduce the 2-0 deficit. In the 50th minute, Ivory MoDavis (Bethlehem, PA/Southern Lehigh) got Penn State Altoona’s first shot on goal of the match, forcing goalkeeper Riley Morningstar to make the save.
Unfortunately for Penn State Altoona, the deficit would get worse, as Penn State Behrend added a third in the 54th minute. Then, in the 56th minute, Penn State Behrend scored their fourth and final goal of the game through Bri Ross.
Penn State Altoona got their second shot on goal in the 83rd minute as Emma Spanik (Blandburg, PA/Glendale) forced another save from Morningstar.
In goal, Torres made a season-high 12 saves off 16 shots on goal.
