UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (7-9, 2-5 B1G) closes out the regular season with a home game this weekend. Penn State welcomes Rutgers (8-8, 3-4 B1G) to Happy Valley for a Halloween night game at 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31.
Penn State is coming off a split weekend on the road. The Nittany Lions downed Lock Haven 8-0 on Friday and fell at No. 5 Princeton 6-1 on Sunday. Penn State is being led by Natalie Freeman, who has 17 points off six goals and a team-high five assists. Freshman Joji Purdy has 13 points off six goals and an assist while Ella Jennes, who had three goals against Lock Haven, has 12 points off six goals. Goalie Aby Deverka has 68 saves and a .654 saver percentage to go along with three shutouts.
Rutgers enters the Friday game with an 8-8 overall record, 3-4 in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a tough 1-0 overtime loss to Maryland last Friday. Penn State leads the all-time series with the Scarlet Knights 20-10-3.
The results of this weekend's games will determine if Penn State will take part in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament, hosted by the University of Indiana on Nov. 6-9.
