Endangered piping plovers nest again in Erie

From staff reports ERIE — Sometimes success comes in threes. For the third consecutive year, federally endangered piping plovers have nested, hatched and fledged chicks into the wild on Presque Isle State Park’s Gull Point, on the shores of Lake Erie. But those four chicks fledged this year are en route to their wintering grounds that include East Coast states from North Carolina to Florida, which are in the path of Hurricane Dorian. I asked a young high schooler whether he was glad when school was out. To my surprise, he replied, “Naw, I’ll be glad when it starts again.
