Sportsmen’s Banquet returns to Evangel Church on Sept. 9

LEWISTOWN — Chris Simonetti has been hunting and fishing all over North America for more than half a century.

The Reedsville outdoorsman has hunted whitetail deer, bears and moose in every lower province in Canada at least once — some twice — and hunted in three or four different states.

He’s fished on chartered boats and made many trips to Clinton and Potter counties for trout, along with many streams throughout the Juniata Valley.

“I have many memories of those adventures,” Simonetti said.

He hopes to share those stories with other avid hunters and anglers at the upcoming Sportsmen’s Banquet, scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Evangel Church, 375 W. Fifth St., Lewistown.

“If you’re looking for something to do, and you have an interest in hunting and fishing, this gives you an opportunity to get out,” Simonetti said.

This marks the second time the banquet has been held, but the first in nearly seven years. The last banquet drew between 50 to 60 people, Simonetti said.

“I’ve always wanted to do one the last several years, but the timing hasn’t been right,” Simonetti said. “The church is excited about the community outreach and sharing God’s word.”

Besides the storytelling, other highlights of the event include an official from the Pennsylvania Game Commission professionally scoring any antlers or mounts from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Marc Jordan, of the Pennsylvania School of Taxidermy, will be the guest speaker.

Simonetti also hopes to put together a slideshow with hunting and fishing photos.

There will also be an assortment of door prizes, including a pheasant hunt, crossbow, Blue Rock Sportsmen’s Club memberships, FoxPro game call and vintage pieces.

The meal, served at 6 p.m., consists of barbecue, macaroni and cheese, applesauce, drink and cake for dessert.

The event is open to all ages.

Simonetti encourages anyone who plans to attend to pre-register before Aug. 31 by calling (717) 437-3130 or e-mailing bucks.ducks@gmail.com.

Admission is free, but a freewill offering is accepted.

Starting at $2.99/week.
