Woods heat up heading into fall rifle season
Hunters encouraged to visit focus areas
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is encouraging hunters heading afield to visit deer hunter focus areas on state game lands where habitat projects are creating new forest growth and hunter access has increased. Forest habitat management efforts in these areas have been known to attract deer.
Share extra venison and help the community
The Pennsylvania Game Commission is a proud partner and supporter of Hunters Sharing the Harvest. Through HSH, hunters can simply donate venison by taking their deer to a participating processor. Thanks to the program’s generous supporters, hunters pay nothing to ensure their venison helps provide a warm meal to someone in need in their community.
Purple paint reminder
Pennsylvania’s “purple paint law” gives landowners the option of using purple paint, rather than signs, to post their properties and alert others that their lands are private, and trespassing is not permitted. Landowners using purple paint to mark their properties must use vertical lines that are at least eight inches long and one inch wide and must be painted three to five feet from the base of the tree.
Report your harvest
The Pennsylvania Game Commission would like to remind all successful hunters to report their big game harvests. There are three ways to report: Online, by calling 1-800-838-4431, or by mailing a harvest card. Harvest data helps wildlife biologists make decisions for future tag allocations and more. Thank you for reporting your harvests!
