Thomspontown AMVETs Post 122 held its 49th annual youth trout derby on April 9. Despite the cool rainy start, 166 children registered and many more parents and grandparents took part.
AMVETS provided food and drinks, tackle boxes and landing nets. With more than 1,000 trout stocked, there were not many empty nets.
The winners from each category, along with the total inches of fish caught, are:
Girls
Age 6 and under
1, Emma Prye, 55 inches; 2, Emma Beason, 52.25 inches
Ages 7-9
1, Piper Brown, 57 inches; 2, Nevaeh Foose, 48 inches
Ages 10-12
1, Makala Weller, 63.75 inches; 2, Piper Jamison, 61.25 inches
The biggest fish was caught by Caroline Hoffman, a 16-inch palomino trout.
Boys
Age 6 and under
1, Colt Walters, 65.5 inches; 2, Robert Eaton, 65.25 inches
Ages 7-9
1, Easton Miller, 60.5 inches; Brenton Slayman, 59.25 inches
Ages 10-12
1, Aarick Lenig, 58 inches; Jeremiah Arstong, 49.25 inches
The biggest fish was caught by Rowan Baney, a 15-inch rainbow trout.
