Roundups: Huskies punish Indians, 35-24

WAYNESBORO– On Friday, Mifflin County’s football team disrupted Waynesboro’s Homecoming Night in Week 6 action for a 35-24 win, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Huskies (2-4, 1-4 MPC) got a 64-yard TD pass from Noah Wolfkiel to Asher Pearce and about a 60-yard pick-six from Landon Bowen to make it 14-0 Huskies on top.

Waynesboro (0-6, 0-5 MPC) answered with a one-yard rushing score from Ronan Mencia and Nick Carbaugh made a 26-yard field goal, making it 14-10 at halftime (Huskies with the lead).

In the third period, at their own 44, Wolfkiel threw a pass in the flat to Pearce, who raced to paydirt for a 56-yard touchdown. Huskies held a 21-10 advantage.

Jaxon Strohecker padded the Huskies’ lead with a four-yard rushing TD, making it 28-10 Huskies.

Then, the Huskies got a 20-yard pick-six from King Terry, pushing the MC lead to 35-10.

Indians’ Dwayne Robinson tacked on a 30-yard TD catch, making it 35-24 Huskies in front.

In Week 7, the Huskies host Northern York and the Indians travel to Hershey.

Juniata collects first win of 2026

HALIFAX — Juniata football corralled their first victory of the season Friday night as the Indians (1-5, 1-2 MPC) beat Halifax (1-5, 0-3 MPC) during a Week 6 showdown, 24-8.

Jason Condo had a bootleg rushing TD to make it 7-0 Indians in the opening quarter and that’s all Juniata needed in the first half.

Defender Brian Kuhn snagged an interception as Halifax was moving the football.

After the intermission, the Indians darted to the endzone off a kick return, making it 14-0 Juniata.

Then, Condo returned to paydirt on a four-yard QB sneak to make it 21-0 Juniata on top with 8:16 remaining in the third stanza.

Juniata’s Austin Naylor delivered a 27-yard field goal to make it 24-0.

Next, Juniata hosts Upper Dauphin in Week 7 action. Halifax battles Newport at home next Friday night.

Tigers edge WolfPack

Cruz Martin scored the lone goal as East Juniata topped St. Joe’s on Thursday, 1-0.

Matteo LePape had the EJ assist and Jonny Hoffman tallied seven saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Bears rout Huskies, 7-0

Alexa Rank, Ava Ondecko and Mackenzie Siler each scored to open up the ballgame and Northern York shut out Mifflin County girls soccer, 7-0.

The JV Polar Bears also won, 7-0.

The Lady Huskies are now 0-11-1 and their next game is at home versus Hershey on Tuesday.

Huskies best Thundering Herd, 3-1

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County hosted the Thundering Herd from Carlisle Thursday evening and won, 25-17, 24-26, 25-22, 25-18. Offensively, Lily Curry had 34 assists and two aces. Kate Hartzler had 13 kills, with Grayce Napikoski and Leah Hartzler adding 12 and seven respectively. Defensively, the Huskies were led by Rylie Kahley with 23 digs. Lily Curry added 19, Addyson Marks added 17, and Grayce Napikoski added 15. Lily Curry and Ella Hartzler each had six blocks, while Leah Hartzler added eight.

JV Huskies won in two sets (25-12 and 25-15). Emma Hartzler had a team-high five kills with Jayda Thomas and Jovi Bush each adding three. Janessa Collins was strong from the service line with a team-high eight aces. Defensively, Jovi Bush and Briah Moore had four digs and Ashland Mazur and Jayda Thomas each added three. Jayda Thomas also had 11 assists.

Green Dragons sweep Tigers, 3-0

LEWISBURG — Lewisburg volleyball swept East Juniata on Thursday, 25-7, 25-13, 25-22.

For EJ, Kylee Burd had two kills with two digs. Brooklyn Devinney added two kills, 10 digs, three aces and five points.

Madyson Freed added 11 digs, Mazie Neimond had seven digs, Avary Chubb posted two aces and six points and Stella Stroup tallied three points.

GOLF

Norman places 5th at districts

Mifflin County’s Emma Norman competed Thursday in the District 6 3A girls golf championship at Windber Country Club. She finished her season with her best score of the year, 97, which was good enough for fifth place overall out of 19 girls.

District 6 awards medals to the top five places, so Emma is bringing home some hardware. Emma becomes only the second girl in MC golf history to win a district medal, joining Kolbi Knode who also placed fifth in 2018.
