MIFFLINTOWN — Landon Beward scored two goals as Juniata shut out Hughesville during Monday’s boys soccer action, 5-0.
First-half goals came from Jackson Shellenberger (assisted by Landon Beward at 32:11), Josue Osorio (13:31), Beward (assisted by Alex Portzline at 9:47).
Second-half goals came from Beward (24:10) and Pedro Matos (assisted by Dayton Miller at 10:40).
Juniata had 13 shots as the Spartans had zero.
Juniata had more corners, 11-3.
Hughesville tallied 15 saves as Juniata’s Nolan Imes had two.
Juniata moves to 10-2 (6-2 TVL) and will face St. Joe’s today. The Spartans (6-5-1, 4-2-1 Heartland II) visit Southern Columbia on Wednesday.
VOLLEYBALL
Wildcats drop Indians, 3-1
HALIFAX — On Monday, Juniata volleyball came back strong after starting off 0-2, but fell to Halifax, 9-24, 12-24, 25-20, 14-25. Senior Captain Maddie Copeland posted 14 assists. Destiny Yohn crushed seven kills, Gabby Reed put up five blocks, and Sophia Hostetler added eight digs.
The Juniata volleyball team is home on Wednesday against Upper Dauphin.
FIELD HOCKEY
Pats rout Huskies, 7-1
LEWISBERRY — The Mifflin County field hockey team travelled to face Red Land, but fell, 7-1, Monday night.
The Huskies held strong early, before a late first quarter goal gave the Patriots the lead. Red Land added goals at the end of quarter penalty corners in the second and third quarters, taking a 5-1 lead into the final stanza, before adding two more after the outcome was already decided.
It was a milestone night for senior goalie Mya Felmlee. The first year player saved 21 Patriot shots, giving her 202 saves on the season. Joining her was junior Regan Kenepp, who scored her first career goal, assisted by freshman Quinnie Williams.
Mifflin County returns home Wednesday to face Palmyra.
Midd-West clobbers Danville
Midd-West field hockey topped Danville on Monday, 11-0.
In the first period, Sabrina Fegley (Maesyn Franquet) scored at 11:41; Audrey Resseguie tacked on a goal at 4:00; Fegley scored at 2:39.
In the second, Veyda Trego scored at 8:53; Josephine Boyd collected a goal at 8:27; Trego scored again at 6:37; Maesyn Franquet added another with one second left.
In the third, Viola Murphy (Veyda Trego) scored at 9:04; Audrey Resseguie (Veyda Trego) added a point at 3:40; Kina Aigler (Maesyn Franquet) also scored at 2:02.
In the fourth, Natalie Sheaffer (Jocelyn Snyder) scored at 7:13.
Midd-West (10-3, 5-0 Heartland) had more shots, 26-1, and Danville had more saves, 15-1.
