HARRISBURG, Pa. - Strong pitching from Peyton Stumbo, Jake Shirk, Mike Walsh and Christian Tortosa wasn't enough for Altoona to pick up a third straight win; falling 2-0 to the Harrisburg Senators on Friday night at FNB Field.
Peyton Stumbo turned in his first scoreless outing since June 10 against Chesapeake with five scoreless frames in his league-leading 25th start of the season. Altoona's righty stranded the bases loaded in the third and fourth inning and finished with a 1-2-3 fifth inning on the mound. Stumbo struck out five and scattered nine total baserunners across his outing.
Harrisburg picked up the only two runs of the game on a two-run homer by Sam Brown in the home half of the sixth inning. Brown homered off Mike Walsh who entered on short notice after Jake Shirk was removed after just two hitters due to injury.
The Curve offense, one night after scoring 12 times on ten hits, was held to just four total baserunners through the first seven innings of the game. The Curve managed just one runner to third base over the first seven frames.
Altoona picked up two hits in each of the seventh and eighth innings, however, Harrisburg's bullpen combined on the shutout.
Curve pitchers combined for ten strikeouts and just three walks on Friday night.
Offensively, the Curve got two-hit days from Keiner Delgado and Murf Gray in the loss. Gray has a hit in six of his last eight games, batting .325 with 3 2B, 3 HR and 10 RBI since August 25.
Altoona continues their series with Harrisburg on Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. RHP Matt Ager starts for the Curve with LHP Alex Clemmey slated for the Senators.
