CROSS COUNTRY
The Mifflin County boys cross country team defeated Cumberland Valley on Thursday, 20-38. Kauffman and Rodenbaugh go 1-2; their scoring five all finishing in the top 10. Their record goes to 5-1 against Mid-Penn competition.
“The boys did a fantastic job of pivoting this week and rolling with some change that was out of our control. We aren't used to working out or racing on a Thursday, but the good news is we are back at Paul Short a week from today. And so this provided a nice stimulus (in great weather) heading into one of our biggest tests of the season. Wyatt and Hoyt executed great races, both reeling in the leader from Cumberland Valley with about a mile to go. After that we moved really well as a unit. Koy Aurand bounced back nicely from Ben Bloser, and Aidan Scavetti, Craig Whitenight, and David Snyder locked up the win for us. On the JV side we ran a really smart race. That group has mastered pack running, and now they are starting to nail down strategy. We are all back to work until next Thursday, where we will compete in the Paul Short Invitational Gold Race at Lehigh University,” said Huskies coach Alex Monroe.
On a beautiful afternoon, the Huskies girls cross country team traveled to Cumberland Valley. The Husky girls put up a fight, but CV took the win by three points, 27-30.
“CV has a lot of depth, so to come within this close is amazing! All the girls just keep pushing and showing up for each other. This was a good day. Elissa Bell, Espie Bargas, Libby Cook, Daliyah Bargas, and Maddy Yoder (who also got a PR in the process) were our scorers. We aren’t used to racing on a Thursday, but this was a great preview of how next Thursday, Paul Short will feel. For now, we keep building the fitness and focus on the things we can control,” said MC girls coach Kristin Kauffman.
The Lady Huskies are 3-3 in the Mid-Penn Conference, and 3-3 overall.
