Roundups: Lady Patriots rally to beat Huskies, 3-1

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County girls soccer took the early lead against visiting Red Land on Wednesday night, but the Lady Patriots rebounded for a 3-1 victory.
Desi Hershberger scored the game’s first goal at 9:04 in the first half on a free kick, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
Then, at 34:59, the Pats would chalk up their first score of the ballgame as Camryn Segura scored. At 19:19, the Pats would get past four Husky defenders for their second goal of the contest as Eden Waltman posted the shot, earning their first lead at 2-1.
Brooke Montgomery would seal the deal with a goal at the 5:12 mark, giving Red Land a 3-1 lead.
Next, the Huskies (0-7-1) visit Lower Dauphin next Tuesday.
Mustangs edge Wildcats, 1-0
MIDDLEBURG — Midd-West girls soccer beat Mifflinburg in PHAC action Wednesday, 1-0.
Midd-West outshot the ‘Cats, 9-4. They had more corners also at 3-2.
Addie Maust had four saves for the winners and Mifflinburg tallied eight.
Addie Yerg scored the lone goal (Ava Aitkins assist).
Midd-West is now 4-0-1 (3-0-1 PHAC) and the ‘Cats are 1-3 (1-3).
TENNIS
Falcons blank Huskies, 5-0
HUMMELSTOWN — Lower Dauphin girls tennis beat Mifflin County (2-8), 5-0, on Wednesday.
In singles action, Harper Lennox beat Maddy Clinard, 6-4, 4-6, TBF. Sydney More defeated Delaynie Newlen, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. Alexis Stump beat Marcella McKee, 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, Savannah Ogie and Amelia Seaman beat Hana Patel and Alexis Allen, 6-1 and via forfeit. Ryleigh Morse and Kailah Shirk defeated Khloe Knepp and Brynlee Miller, 6-0, 6-0.
Next, the Huskies host Northern York today at 4 p.m.
GOLF
Mustangs best Seals
SELINSGROVE — Midd-West golf topped Selinsgrove on Wednesday, at Susquehanna Valley Country Club, 171-182.
For Midd-West, River Knepp posted a team-best 41. Gabe Romig had a 43, Brady Gunkle 43, Calvin Beaver 47, Cameron Swineford 44 and Mason Zeigler 47.
For the Seals, Quinton Davis and Tanner Fry each shot a 54. Reid Kerstetter and Lincoln Phelps each had a 43.
RJ Boyer shot a 45 and Graham Davis shot a 51.
Next, Midd-West hosts Central Mountain next Tuesday.
VOLLEYBALL
Trojans sweep Tigers, 3-0
COCOLAMUS — Upper Dauphin volleyball beat East Juniata on Wednesday, 25-13, 25-8, 25-11.
For the Tigers, Kylee Burd had four points. Brooklyn Devinney added two digs and one point.
Madyson Freed had three digs, Hayley Cramer tallied two assists and two points.
Mazie Neimond had two digs, one assist and five points.
EJ (1-6) hosts Sugar Valley at 6:30 tonight.
JUNIOR HIGH
Huskies battle Eagles
REEDSVILLE — The Mifflin County Junior High cross country squads faced off against much larger and formidable teams from Cumberland Valley Wednesday afternoon at Indian Valley Elementary Center.
In the boys race, Mifflin County’s Kenneth Swartzel claimed second overall, covering the two-mile course in 11:30. Teammate Adien Wible was ninth in 12:15. Tanner Napikoski, Sam Mills, Leonidis Stivala, and Nolan Wade also showed tremendous improvement over last week’s race at Central Dauphin.
Among the girls competitors, Lillen Adams placed fifth in 13:32, with Adalyn Lutz second in team scoring and eleventh overall in 14:42. Hannah Russler and Brinley Foster also recorded significantly faster times.
Overall, Cumberland Valley, which won the boys race 19-44 and the girls competition 16-47, enjoyed a four-to one total runner advantage, but the Huskies held their own, demonstrating resilience and fortitude.
Next Wednesday, Mifflin County hopes to continue building on this week’s progress when they travel to Chambersburg.

Indians shine in XC meet
DUNCANNON — The Juniata High School girls and boys cross country teams traveled to Susquenita on Wednesday to compete on one of the toughest 5k cross country courses. Junior Carolyn Heidenreich took charge of the race early on to take the win with a time of 25:38. Other Juniata girls competing in the meet are listed below.

VOLLEYBALL
Huskies rally to top Pats, 3-2
LEWISBERRY — Mifflin County volleyball traveled to Red Land on Tuesday and escaped with a 3-2 victory.
Varsity Huskies started slow dropping the first set 16-25 and the second set 25-27 before coming back and getting the win with a reverse sweep, winning the next three sets 25-15, 25-18 and 15-11.
A solid defensive effort was led by Riley Kahley with a team-high 38 digs.
Lily Curry added 22 digs with Addyson Marks and Jensyn Taylor each adding 10.
Leah Hartzler contributed five blocks with Kate Hartzler and Ella Hartzler adding three and two blocks respectively.
Offensively, Lily Curry dished out 33 assists with Kate Hartzler having a team-high 16 kills and Grayce Napikoski adding 11. Jayda Thomas had a team-high five aces.
JV Huskies got the win in two sets, winning 25-12 and 25-9.
Briah Moore led the MC defense with eight digs while Ayden Long and Sarah Hartsock added four digs each. Jovi Bush had a team-high seven kills while Adyen Long and Janessa Collins each added three. Sarah Hartsock had 16 assists while Briah Moore had three aces and Janessa Collins added two.
The Huskies (2-3) are back home Thursday evening when they host Palmyra.
BOYS SOCCER
Lions clip Meadowbrook, 1-0
Juniata Christian boys soccer topped Meadowbrook on Tuesday, 1-0.
There were no first-half goals.
Zander Neimond posted the only second-half score, giving JCS the victory.
JCS outshot Meadowbrook, 9-5.
JCS also tallied more corners, 6-3.
Connor Leitzel had two saves for the Lions.
Meadowbrook had four saves.
JCS’s overall record is 7-0 and their next game is Friday at home versus Grace Prep. Then, on Saturday at noon, JCS will host East Juniata.
GIRLS SOCCER
Meadowbrook drops JCS, 2-0
On Tuesday, Meadowbrook girls soccer kept JCS in check with a 2-0 victory.
A first-half goal came from Addison Wolfe.
Then, in the final half, Wolfe posted another goal.
Meadowbrook outshot JCS, 11-2.
JCS had more corners, 6-5.
Emma Martin corralled seven saves for Juniata Christian and Meadowbrook had none.
JCS’s overall record is 3-4-1 and their next game is Friday at home versus Grace Prep.
Mustangs dodge Tigers, 2-0
WEST PERRY — West Perry girls soccer beat East Juniata on Tuesday, 2-0.
Jalinn Kell and Maggie Morrison each scored for Perry.
Each team had two shots and Perry had eight saves with three corners.
EJ (6-1) had seven saves and two corners.
Next, EJ visits Line Mountain today at 6 p.m.
FIELD HOCKEY
Patriots stump Huskies, 5-0
LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County field hockey team (1-4) fell to Red Land, 5-0, on Tuesday night.
On a night honoring educators, the game opened with a Patriot flurry, scoring three goals in the blink of an eye. Senior goalie Mya Felmlee had 10 saves (116 on the season) and senior Aubree Dobson added another defensive save (eighth on the year). Mifflin County, missing a starting forward to injury, still managed nine shots on the state tourney participants from a year ago.
Seven games into the season, the Huskies have faced off versus five teams that competed in the 2025 PIAA State Playoffs a year ago. The high level competition continues with MC traveling to 2025 PIAA State quarterfinalist Northern York Monday evening.
The Huskies drew the JV game 1-1 thanks to a goal from freshman Quinnie Williams (fifth of the year), assisted by Irelynn Milligan. Sophomore goalie Carson Moore-Aldich added 10 saves.
