CAMP HILL — The Mifflin County field hockey team raised the championship trophy, defeating multiple-time defending champs and host Camp Hill in the final, 5-4, in overtime this weekend.
Camp Hill and the Huskies played in the championship match a year ago, with the 0-0 regulation final score being sent straight to a shootout the Lions won in sudden death. Camp Hill then advanced to the 2025 PIAA State Quarterfinals. A year later, a second-half comeback from the Huskies (after being down three goals) tied the game at four. This time, the game went to overtime, and the Huskies got their revenge as senior captain Jayda Kanagy knocked home the game-winner (her second on the day) for the Huskies as they move to 2-2 on the season.
Playing the first game of the day may have given the Lions the early edge as they looked like the more well rested team, seemingly pulling away with a 4-1 lead in the third quarter (Huskies first goal by senior captain Brynn Rowe). After a crucial timeout, the Huskies scored back-to-back goals from junior Adalyn Amspacker to go along with the game-tying goal from Kanagy.
The Huskies return home to face off against new divisional opponent Cedar Cliff on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. (6 p.m. is JV).
Mifflin County outshot the Lions, 26-22. MC had more corners, 8-7.
Mifflin County is the 2026 Lions Den Showcase champion.

Huskies open season at BVI
REEDSVILLE — The Mifflin County Junior High cross country teams opened the season with strong showings at the 52nd Big Valley Invitational Saturday in Reedsville.
Led by Kenneth Swartzel's sixth-place finish and Adien Wible's 12th place in the field of 89 runners, the Husky boys finished fourth in the team competition. Rounding out the field for Mifflin County was Tanner Napikoski, Sam Mills, Nolan Wade, and Leonidas Stivala.
On the girls side, two returnees from last year earned medals as Lillen Adams captured 7th place and Adalyn Lutz took 12th. Two first-year runners, Hannah Russler and Brinley Foster, completed their debut cross country races.
The junior high Huskies will start their dual meet Wednesday at Central Dauphin.
Indians also battle at BVI
REEDSVILLE — Juniata Junior High cross country Teams Compete at 52nd Annual Big Valley Cross Country Invitational on Saturday in Reedsville.
The first race of the day was the boys and girls junior high 1.83 mile cross country race. Eighth grader Evan Yackey led the Indians with a second place overall finish running a time of 10:25. Eighth grader Landon Miller was next running a personal best time of 11:34 for 17th place overall. Eighth grader Mason Hardin ran a personal best time of 15:41 to place 73rd overall.
“Our three junior high boys ran competitively today to come away with some good results. Evan took home a medal, but wasn’t happy missing the win by so little. He’s a winner and 2nd place will only make him better for the future. Landon and Mason ran great races. It’s always rewarding to see those summer miles pay off,” Indians coach Jeff Miller said.
Juniata had three runners compete in the JV boys, which was the 2nd race of the day. Junior John Randolph placed 40th with a time of 21:22. Freshman Nicholi Keiter placed 59th with a time of 22:40 and freshman Andy Rutherford was 99th running a time of 29:02.
“John ran some good splits today to come close to his personal best. He’s only three weeks into training so he will improve each week. I was super impressed with how Nicholi ran today. He struggled on Tuesday at our home meet to run the entire 5k without walking. Today he ran what I knew he could. He’s a hard worker that is eager to get better. It’s my job to continue to help him learn the sport. There’s no doubt he’s in the right sport. Andy ran much better today than Tuesday at our home meet. He’s just starting to get back in shape so he will continue to drop lots of time,” Miller said.
The final race of the day was the high school girls JV race. Sophomore Ella Zimmerman led the Indians with a 28th place finish running a time of 26:40. Sophomore Darcy Griffiths was next placing 35th with a time of 27:15. Freshman Adi Peck placed 51st with a time of 30:58.
“Ella, Darcy, and Adi all showed huge improvement from our home meet on Tuesday. All three stayed focused and came away happy for the effort they put in today,” Miller said.
