CROSS COUNTRY
Husky runners pick up multiple wins
The Mifflin County boys cross country team picked up commanding wins on a brutally hot day against Central Dauphin (23-37) and Central Dauphin East (20-43) respectively, on Tuesday.
"I am so pleased with how my younger/newer athletes competed today. I asked a lot of them when I pulled 6 of my boys to rest for Big Valley this weekend. They still executed the plan and got the job done regardless. They are learning how to win meets and it gets me really excited for the future. This was our regular season opener, and so it's always nice to start with a win. I expect big things from all of them on our home course come Saturday,” Huskies coach Alex Monroe said.
The Lady Huskies cross country team opened their dual meet season on a sweltering Tuesday afternoon in Harrisburg with shut out wins over Central Dauphin East 15-50 and a convincing 17-44 victory over Central Dauphin.
Despite the extreme conditions, the Huskies ran a strong tactical and disciplined race, executing their race plan to perfection. An excited Coach Kristin Kauffman beamed after the finish, “I couldn’t be more proud of how they packed up and worked together in such brutal conditions.” The top four girls, Libby Cook, Espie Bargas, Daliyah Bargas, and Elissa Bell, crossed the finish line together at a time of 24:43. Rounding out the varsity group was Abby Anderson, seventh with a time of 26:15, Maddie Yoder in eighth with a time of 26:21 and Lizzy Massie in ninth with a time of 26:45. Our younger girls also learned a valuable lesson in overcoming adversity. The Huskies return to action Saturday at the Big Valley invitational in Reedsville.
The Huskies are 2-0 in Mid-Penn, 2-0 overall.
