The Mifflin County field hockey team lost on Wednesday, 2-0, in a physical matchup against the Hershey Trojans.
Traveling to the defending state quarterfinalists, Mifflin County conceded an early goal before playing the next 30 minutes to a dead even draw. Freshman forward Jemma Kanagy drew a well-earned Trojan green card to give the Huskies a player advantage, but it wasn’t enough as Hershey added another to win 2-0.
Senior Mya Felmlee was strong in the cage with a career high 29 saves. Mya’s effort takes her season total over 100 just six games into her first year campaign. Senior captain Aubree Dobson added two defensive saves, taking her season total to nine. Jemma, sister and senior captain Jayda and junior Adalyn Amspacker led the Huskies with three shots on goal apiece.
In the preceding JV game, Quinnie Williams opened up the game with another goal, her fourth in just two days. The Trojans depth again played a huge part in this game as the Huskies are straddled with just one substitute due to injury. Hershey pulled away and won 3-1.
After a blitz to start the season (six games in nine days), the Huskies finally have a few days off before hosting Red Land on Tuesday Sept. 15.

Huskies draw with Cougars
LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County had a draw with Palmyra on Tuesday evening, 0-0.
Mifflin County boys assistant coach Todd R. Peters said, “A very exciting and intense 0-0 draw with Palmyra. They looked to drive balls up front and sometimes over, but we stayed strong in the back. Chase Retherford was his normal self in getting touches and headers on them on the outside. Brody Wolfkill stepped into lanes very well tonight then with his head up looked to connect. We needed to clean up the middle of the park a bit and eliminate dribbling or just cut down on touches. Our middle triangle worked hard tonight. We had glimpses of that in each half where we were dangerous with mindful touches, but it needs to be with more regularity…”
Palmyra outshot MC, 12-5. They also had more corners, 5-0.
Jack Suydam tallied 12 saves for the Huskies.

Juniata battles in Boalsburg
BOALSBURG — Juniata ran a league meet at St. Joe’s on Tuesday afternoon. Just three days after competing in the Big Valley Invitational, the Juniata Cross Country teams were back competing against all teams in the TVAA League on Tuesday.
Juniata junior Carolyn Heidenreich took top honors by winning the girls race with a time of 23:04.5. Freshman Hannah Wirt was next placing 4th with a time of 24:34.3. Junior Hannah Zeiders came in shortly after in 6th place with a time of 24:58.3. Freshman Juliet Heidenreich was next with a time of 26:32.4 and good enough for eighth place. Freshman Charlotte Barner finished strong to place 10th with a time of 27:35.9. Other Juniata girl finishers were:
12th place Ella Zimmerman – 28:07.1
13th place Erendira Martinez-Ramirez – 28:13.3
15th place Darcy Griffiths – 28:26.5
16th place Marissa Henry – 29:01.3
The girls team took top honors against all teams in the TVAA League.
Juniata 15 – Greenwood 50
Juniata 15 – Newport 50
Juniata 23 – St. Joseph’s 38
Juniata 18 – Susquenita 43
Juniata 18 – Upper Dauphin 43
“Carolyn is running with the most confidence I have seen her in a cross country season. We got lucky with the soccer schedule so she has an easier time this season making it to cross country races and practices and it’s showing. It’s awesome to see three freshmen finishing in our top 5 with Hannah Wirt, Juliet Heidenreich, and Charlotte Barner. They are three girls we had last year on our junior high cross country team that have decided to just focus on cross country this year and they are a force to be reckoned with. I was so happy this summer to find out they committed to cross country. Hannah Zeiders has put in the miles this summer and it will show when we get some cool weather. She’s one of the hardest working girls I ever coached,” Indians coach Jeff Miller said.
Junior Josiah Barner took top honors winning the boys race with a time of 19:28.3. Junior David Mayall-Marker was next for the Indians in 7th place with a time of 20:16.8. Senior Coy Kerstetter was next placing 8th with a time of 21:08.6. Freshman Matthew Corman placed 12th with a time of 21:54.3. Senior Joel Hardin rounded out the scoring with a time of 22:14.1 and 16th place. Other Juniata boy finishers were:
23rd place Elliott Miller – 24:43.7
24th place John Randolph – 24:43.7
28th place Luke Weiand – 26:16.9
32nd place Nicholi Keiter – 31:42.8
33rd place Andy Rutherford – 31:48.1
“We got in some good hill work today at St. Joseph’s. It was another hot day for cross country, but better than our home meet last week. Josiah took charge from the gun and never let up. I thought Coy looked strong today. Matthew runs with heart and it shows. I don’t think he knows how good he can get with some more miles in his legs. He’s doing great for a freshman. Joel puts in the work and will soon have one of those races to prove it. He’s a great kid we will surely miss next year. David felt he was a little off today and that’s ok. It’s not always easy to come back after a 5k three days ago and feel good. It was great seeing John Randolph and Elliott Miller run together throughout the race. They can push each other to get better and that’s always a win,” Miller said.
