PALMYRA — Mifflin County football was neck and neck with Palmyra throughout most of their contest on Friday night. But, the Cougars would get a pick-6 from Sid Harrison to go up two touchdowns and eventually captured a 42-28 home win.
Palmyra was led by Aaron Villafane who had 109 rushing yards with the longest run of the night coming right before the half where the Cougars would end it on a 15-yard passing play from Roman Russek to Jaxin Robinson to give the mighty orange and black the lead 21-14 at the half.
Mifflin County was led by a kick return show from their standout return specialist Landon Bowen who piled up 124 total yards including a 97-yard kick return touchdown to even the score up at seven apiece.
Huskies coach Shane Breon said, “Yeah, well I mean we’re trying new cadence this year, but we’re jumping offsides too many times, so we’re going to evaluate that this week. You start first and 10, you jump, and then it’s first and 15. You’re behind the sticks. So there’s so many things you can do when you get behind the sticks like that. You know these guys get paid to coach too, and you know they do their scouting and they know what we’re doing. So you know we got to change some things up, get some things going a little bit different.”
Mifflin County would also get productive minutes from Asher Pearce who also found himself in the endzone for a six-yard score early in the second quarter and the score would give the Huskies the lead back at 14-7.
Palmyra was stellar when it came to the run game as Villafane was at his best totaling 165 yards in the win
Despite a strong 135-yard offensive effort from Lucas Hartung the Huskies could not tame the Cougars, losing to the black and orange for the first time in five years.
The Huskies (1-2) host Red Land in their home opener next Friday.
