SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Big plays were the key to Mifflin County taking down Central Mountain, 28-19, in its opener. Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter, the Huskies' special teams blocked an extra point attempt. A fumble gave Mifflin County the ball at the Wildcat 13 and Husky QB Noah Wolfkiel hit Lucas Hartung for a 13-yard TD pass for a 7-6 lead. A failed fake punt later set up a 3-yard run by Jaxon Strohecker, pushing the lead to 14-6 at halftime. The big plays continued for the Huskies in the second half. A holding call negated a 75-yard strike from Wolfkiel to Landon Bowen, but Wolfkiel eventually found Asher Pearce for an 81-yard TD. After Central Mountain answered, Bowen took the ensuing kickoff 80-plus yards to the house to seal the win.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS: Shippensburg trailed Big Spring 21-0 in the first quarter and 28-6 at the half before seeing its rally fall short, 42-34. Mason Costolo went 8 of 17 for 115 yards with 2 TDs and 1 INT, while Mark Carothers Jr. rushed for 158 yards and 1 TD. The Greyhounds racked up 192 yards on the ground, averaging 4.5 yards per carry. Costolo also ran for 20 yards and 2 scores. Costolo's favorite target was Weston Stum, who caught four balls for 83 yards and 2 TDs.
West Perry (1-0) at Juniata (0-1)

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS: West Perry got the horses running early, rushing for 239 yards and 3 TDs in a 30-12 win over York Suburban last week. Mason Sprecher accounted for 152 yards, including a long of 38 yards, and 1 TD. Landon Wilson added 79 yards and 1 TD, while Hayden Fleisher also ran another score in. Fleisher completed 3 of 6 passes for 78 yards and 1 TD. Marshall Etter had 2 receptions for 71 yards and 1 TD. Defensively, Christian Laughman racked up 12 total tackles, including 1 tackle for loss. Mason Page also had 1 TFL.
SCOUTING THE INDIANS: Not much went right for Juniata in its debut, a 23-0 loss to Selinsgrove. Jason Condo went 3 of 9 passing for 16 yards and 1 INT. Ty Rowles carried the ball 15 times for 38 yards, while Colton Hutchinson had 1 catch for 7 yards. The Indians managed 5 first downs on the night and couldn't produce any points on the scoreboard. Juniata's offense mustered 84 yards. Defensively, Cale Fike had 12 total tackles, including 1 tackle for loss. Jeremiah Alonso, Quentin Houtz and Blake Schreffler also had TFLs. On special teams, Brian Kuhn and Bryson Summers combined for 83 kickoff return yards.
Everett (0-1) at Mount Union (1-0)

SCOUTING THE WARRIORS: Everett was dominated by Southern Huntingdon, 47-7, in its opener. The Warrior defense gave up 180 yards and 3 TDs through the air and another 152 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. Rocket QB Cohen Snyder went supernova, throwing for 177 yards on only 16 passes and rushed for 48 yards and 1 TD.
Southern Huntingdon County was charging into the backfield all evening and finished the game with four sacks of Everett QB Nolan Whisel, who went 11 of 18 passing for 125 yards. The Rockets had a variety of long TD plays - a 75-yard pass play, 65-yard pick six and 83-yard KR.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS: Mount Union made short work of Tussey Mountain, steamrolling the Titans 42-7 in week one. Maddox Hobbs was 2 of 4 for 102 yards and 1 TD. He connected with Hussan Posey on an 84-yard TD strike. TB Nasir Collins rolled up 117 yards on 14 carries, along with 2 TDs. Defensively, four Trojans had double-digit tackles: Hobbs (16) with 3 tackles for loss; Levi Hunsinger (14) with 3 TFL; Brayden Richards (13) with 4 TFL; and Rahmeir Smith (10) with 3 TFL. In all, Mount Union registered 16 TFLs. Richards also had two of the Trojans' 5 sacks.
Columbia Montour Vo-Tech (0-1) at Midd-West (0-1)

SCOUTING THE RAMS: Columbia Montour Vo-Tech got clobbered at home by Shenandoah Valley 56-6 last week. The Rams trailed 49-0 at the half and 56-0 in the fourth before putting points on the scoreboard. Cody Zimmerman and Jaxson Hartman combined to pass for 60 yards and threw 2 INTs. Zimmerman rushed for 57 yards and 1 TD. Wyatt Bodnar had 3 catches for 47 yards, while Alize Jeirles had the other for 13 yards. Defensively, Bodnar had a team-best 5 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss, while Bradley Jones and Anthony Albertson each added four tackles. Albertson also recorded a fumble recovery.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS: Midd-West put some mighty impressive statistics in the books in a 42-7 loss at Hamburg. Witten Carter completed 13 of 24 passes for 201 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs. His longest pass was 66 yards for a TD to Aiden Rose. Jiovaunni Drumheller rushed for 17 yards, while D'Angelo Drumheller caught 2 balls for 45 yards and Mason Fultz added 6 for 34 yards. Defensively, Fultz made 9 tackles, while Jiovaunni Drumheller had 7 and D'Angelo Drumheller added 6. Noah Kratzer also recorded a sack and Graydon VanHorn caused a fumble. Konnor Kullman was 1 for 1 on PATs.
