SHIPPENSBURG — In Week 2 football action, Shippensburg blocked Mifflin County from winning a second-straight game to open 2026. The Greyhounds scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to seal a 36-22 home victory.

Mifflin County took an early lead on a a deep pass from Noah Wolfkeil to Lucas Hartung for a 23-yard connection and the play would result in an impressive three-play, 63-yard drive to get an early jab at the Greyhounds.

Mifflin County would be 6-for-12 in the first half with 173 passing yards.

Shippensburg would be led by a strong rushing attack from Mark Carothers, Jr. who saw himself with 83 total yards on the ground including 16 receiving yards in the first half.

The battling Greyhounds would go 7-for-11 passing with only 98 total yards.

Mifflin County was also led by big playmaking abilities from other key guys including a 35-yard receiving touchdown and a one-handed grab by Asher Pearce.

Huskies head coach Shane Breon said, “It was a humid night, they attacked us differently in the second half, we missed some opportunities to cash in. The field chance we took made a difference late in the game. Shippensburg has a special running back over there and whenever you rotate like that you stay fresh.”

It was all Shippensburg in the second half where Carothers ran all over the Huskies, finishing the night with 204 yards.

Despite strong tackling from Jake Knable and a strong offensive effort from Hartung late to total 75 yards on the night, the Huskies could not handle the Greyhounds offense late.

Mifflin County was also led by strong powerful running from both backs Jaxon Strohecker and Zyhair Hill, Hill would leave the game early in the Huskies 36-22 loss to the Greyhounds.

The Huskies outscored Ship in the second frame, 15-7. In the opening period, Ship (1-1) had an 8-7 lead.

Next, the Huskies (1-1) conclude a three-game road trip with a visit to Palmyra on Sept. 11.

The Greyhounds host Hershey in Week 3.
