Girls soccer: Lions blank Thunder, 3-0

MCALISTERVILLE — A week after battling each other through a torrential rainstorm, the Belleville Christian and Juniata Christian girls soccer team met in an ACAA league contest.
The Lions played at their new soccer facility against their rival.
Offensively, the Lions was able to cut the field of play to primarily the Thunders' side of the field as they were able to hit a goal in the first half and two in the second to finish the afternoon with a 3-0 victory.
Juniata Christian's three goals were pinched in with three players.They outshot the Thunder 20-2 and led in shots on goal with a 6-0 advantage.
Belleville goalie Jocelyn Hays finished with 11 saves while opposing Lions' goalie Emma Martin finished with one.
"We do well as a team, if we just talk more, possess more, and we’ll be good to go," said Juniata Christian coach Katie Sellers. "We had to play 10 against 10, so we did have to switch a bit of our formation, which was a little bit of a learning curve, but we pulled it through."
From the opening minute, the Lions took the ball downfield cutting off the running lanes and passing lanes.
However, the Thunder's backline and goalie Hays were up for the challenges. Time and time again, the Belleville defense was able to turn back the attack of the Lions'
"We’ve been playing down all season, and we had a really tough game yesterday, so I knew they were gonna come into this one tired," said Belleville Christian coach Kelsey Peachey. "So, they kept working, and I’m happy with how things ended up today."
With time running down into the 10-minute mark, Juniata Christian broke through the defensive wall of the Thunder when Josie Sieber posted a blast and scored with 10:36 left in the first half.
It that would be the only goal that the Lions could muster, taking a 1-0 lead into the half.
Coming out of the intermission, Juniata once again drove the ball into the Thunders' back-third.
Much like the first half, the Belleville defensive squad was up for the challenging, keeping them scoreless for almost the entire second half.
Similar to the first, the Lions' scored goal number two at 10:32. Rachel Hoover scored as she picked up an assist from Nicole Lara to add an insurance goal at 2-0.
Juniata would score once again late when Aurora Weller scored on an unassisted goal at 7:42 to put the game on ice.
Friday October 8th, the Lions will play Meadowbrook. It will be Juniata Christian's next game . That will also be the Lions last game.
