Standings tighten up thanks to Dream Race

PORT ROYAL -- The sprint car point standings tightened up dramatically after the Living Legends Dream Race Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway.
Five-time champion Logan Wagner remains on top, but six-time champion Lance Dewease has closed the gap to only 65 points. Dewease raced from 14th starting spot to eighth, while Wagner had an off night, finishing 12th after starting 18th.
Ryan Smith is also in the mix after a runner-up finish Saturday night. He's only 105 points behind Wagner.
The sprint cars are off for two weeks before returning for the Labor Day Classic on Monday afternoon, Sept. 7. The first two nights of Tuscarora 50 weekend are the final point races on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 10-11. The $59,000 to win Tuscarora 50 itself on Sept. 12 is not a points race.
Port Royal is in action on Friday and Saturday with the “Rumble by the River” sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. The Saturday night finale pays $50,000 to win, while Friday is $10,000. The limited late models join the program both nights. Racing starts at 7.
Drake Troutman, of Hyndman, is coming off an impressive win at Port Royal Saturday night. Trevor Feathers leads the point standings by a slim five-point margin over Gregg Satterlee. Rick Eckert is 100-points back.
In the Lucas Oil standings, it’s Brandon Sheppard by 90 points over Hudson O’Neal. Both are former “Rumble” winners, while Ricky Thornton Jr. swept last year’s weekend.
Port Royal’s Lane Snook leads Jaxton Garman by 110 points in the track limited late model standings.
Snook has been very fast in his rookie season in the super late models, but no racing luck whatsoever. After setting a one-lap track in qualifying Friday night at Selinsgrove, he was leading the feature when his view became blocked. He pitted, the crew removed the debris and he rejoined. He was back up to the top five when his car broke. He's had another good season in the limited late models and appears headed to his second straight Port Royal championship.
Port Royal's Mike Alleman is having a good season in the 305 sprints. He's third in the PA Sprint Series points. He finished third at Selinsgrove Friday night.
Mifflintown's Owen Dimm has turned heads during his rookie 410 sprint car season. He's been really fast and competitive, even leading feature laps. His best finish is fifth at Port. However, Dimm missed the Living Legends Dream Race Saturday night after finding an engine issue during maintenance.
Garman, of Elliottsburg, won the annual Len Stroud Jr. Memorial on Friday night at the Clinton County Speedway.
An interesting points championship race is also developing for the sprint cars at Williams Grove Speedway. Defending champion Troy Wagaman Jr. leads Chase Dietz by 290 points and Danny Dietrich by 480.
The Grove returns Friday night with the Billy Kimmel Memorial as part of the PA Posse Sprint Car Series, plus the 358 sprints.
