MIFFLINTOWN — In an early-season showdown between cross-county rivals, it can be hard to tell how good teams can be. But, on Monday, East Juniata (2-0) made some noise during a 5-0 win against Juniata in girls soccer action.
EJ’s Acea Spade had a hat-trick. Cali Wagner and Briahna Brubaker each chalked up one goal in the road victory.
The Tigers tallied four of their goals in the opening half.
EJ posted five corners and Juniata had five.
The Tigers got six keeper saves and 15 shots on goal.
Juniata (1-1) had seven shots on goal and goalie Yaa Serwaa had 10 saves.
Next, EJ visits Mifflin County on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Juniata will host Shikellamy on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
NOTE-Last year, the Tigers and Indians split their season series (1-1).
The two teams will meet again on Sept. 10 at East Juniata Junior/Senior High School.
EJ will hit the road for three of their next five games.
Mustangs gallop past Red Tornadoes, 8-0
MIDDLEBURG — Midd-West girls soccer beat Mt. Carmel (0-2) on Monday, 8-0.
The Mustangs (1-0) outshot Carmel, 27-1. They also had more corners, 14-0.
Midd-West scored seven times in the first half.
The Mustangs got a hat-trick from Emery Peters and Evelyn Mitchell had two goals.
Ava Atkins, Maya Zechman and Kaydin Bingaman each posted one goal.
GIRLS TENNIS
Rams shut out Huskies
HARRISBURG — Central Dauphin topped Mifflin County (2-2) in Monday’s tennis action, 5-0.
In singles play, Emma Teunissen beat Maddy Clinard (6-4, Forfeit due to injury) and Katie Gergal defeated Delaynie Newlen, 6-0, 6-0. Aminata Diarra beat Marcella McKee, 6-0, 6-0.
In doubles,Karli Eiswert and Ellie Heller earned a 6-1, 6-1 win against Huskies Hana Patel and Alexis Allen. Dwarna Yeminedi and Annabelle Young beat Khloe Knepp and Layla Breneman, 6-2, 6-0.
FIELD HOCKEY
Mustangs freeze Green Dragons, 3-0
Midd-West field hockey toppled Lewisburg on Monday, 3-0.
For the Mustangs, Maesyn Franquet (7:06), Audrey Resseguie (Veyda Trego, 5:35) and Veyda Trego (1:53) each scored a goal.
Each team had seven shots on goal.
Midd-West (1-0) had more saves than the Dragons, 7-4.
